Politics and Weather; Neither Can be Avoided

 Tis’ a Privilege

Living in Colorado. Despite Californication, traffic, and miles of ugly two story houses on postage sized lots, the vistas remain. While hanging paper the other day, the air was crystal clear, the Front Range snow covered, the sun was shining, and just a few high cirrus clouds were over the mountains. Just looking at the mountains lifted my spirits.

A few days earlier an assignment took me 130 miles east in the high plains. There is much to see if you know to look and the land stretches seemingly forever.

Perhaps these are, “stop and smell the roses”, moments?

 TABOR

Colorado specific.

If you file taxes in Colorado, you must opt in to get your TABOR refund. Another sneaky (P)regressive money grabbing tactic.

Along that line, Polis and fellow thieves are forecasting a budget shortfall while several agencies are sitting on previously allocated funds that have not been spent.

WSF gets racist

Big rig truck driving is a tough job. Truck companies have a tough time hiring drivers. Increasingly long haul truck drivers are immigrants with limited, or no, English. Articles like this one ignore that factor.

Reality

The only hint is one line.

Bowes noted that it’s only a half-joke that some of the drivers who don’t know the right procedures for mounting chains are seen on roadsides and chain stations in shorts and sandals in winter weather.

Also mentioned are understaffed State Patrol officers.

The same situation exists along I-80 in Wyoming compounded by low wages for snow plow drivers resulting in not enough snow plows.

OK, WSF, are you saying immigrants can’t drive trucks? No, immigrants aren’t trained, or prepared, for the loads and highways they are expected to traverse.

I watch several YouTube channels involving tow companies working wrecks. Time after time the drivers have limited English.

Disclaimer: Anyone who hired WSF to drive anything bigger than a one ton flatbed was foolish. One employer banned me from pulling trailers. A man should know his limitations. Sisty can fill you in on a box truck and low bridge in Casper.

Medical Care Rant

I’ve no major complaints about the medical care I’ve received. What I do complain about is just getting a @#$# appointment. For the patience impaired, such as myself, the endless, “Please listen to all the options………..”. Finally here the option I want and press the number. Now I hear again, “You have reached the …..Department. Please listen to the………… Aarg!

I begin to question whether I need the medical attention. Too often I just take two acetaminophen and say, “F**k it”.

Anti-Government Rant

 Jackboot Thugs

Another story of the ATF doing a full scale raid on a couple’s home in the early hours and treating the man and wife like dangerous terrorists.  Why the heavy handed tactics when there was no need? 0800 go up and knock on the door. Second question, why wasn’t the county sheriff there? Two deputies in over their heads and likely not trained for that type of situation, would make me question why that sheriff needs to be reelected, if I were a voter in that county.

Hopefully the Trump administration will get this rouge agency under control.

Butter

Once again I’m seeing articles on how butter is bad and various “spreads” are healthier. Maybe, but something that is one molecule away from plastic isn’t something I want to ingest.

Not all butter in the supermarket is the same. I try to find “first churned”, usually Amish, roll butter. Expensive, but my health is worth it.

Pardons

I’m not a lawyer and haven’t stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in years. That said, I think SloJo’s handlers have made a huge blunder. Those “pardoned” can no long take the 5th, as I understand the way the system works. Slimy Milley didn’t just do it alone. He had aides, subordinates, who in the normal course of time will be promoted into higher position. They helped him, and they can be prosecuted. The head snake may escape but the pit of vipers can’t.

There are scores of  MIlleys sitting on a Presidential pardon.

Are these subordinates going to quietly accept their fate? Or, will they take out the threat to them? Will our national murder rate have an upswing?

“If no one talks, we all walk”.

EV Blues

Trump pledges to target the EV industry, while Coloradans widely embrace their clean new cars

Typical leftist journalism click bait headline. Because of big subsidies (i.e. sucking at the taxpayer’s tit) some people buy electric vehicles. The rest of us paying for those subsidies are less enthusiastic.

Wyoming Poachers

Wyoming Poachers

A recent headline.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston is planning to cut $45 million from city agencies including the police to help fund a program to deal with a recent influx of migrants

Seeing an opportunity to solve staffing issues, The Laramie (Cheyenne) County Sheriff bought a billboard in Denver.

This coming shortly after Denver is launching some unicorn fart plan to stop crime that will require staffing with some police.

Crime

Surprisingly, the Denver Mayor isn’t pleased.

Umbrage

Californicating Colorado

Colorado ranks 21st in the country by population and 13th in the country in state debt. As I’ve written many times the only reason the debt isn’t higher is, in part, because of TABOR, a 1992 voter passed amendment to the Colorado Constitution. In simple terms, the Taxpayers Bill of Rights severely restricts all government entities, from the Colorado Legislators to a local water district in the way taxes can be raised. Further, all surpluses must be returned to the taxpayers as a refund.

Checking the Revenuer's  site, my refund check is, “In the mail”, but may take up to thirty days to arrive. Huh?

Every since Colorado turned blue politically, the (P)regressives have been seeking ways around TABOR. In the last session, they have passed some TABOR ‘reforms’. Just what they passed is hard to learn but should keep some lawyers busy.

MORE

In the pasts, they have not done due diligence (surprise) and now there is another mess.

Where are the auditors?

This one has me totally confused and, it seems, I’m not alone. Perhaps it is, Figures don’t lie, liars figure”.

But, but californication is falling behind. Not to worry, their gas prices are coming to the Front Range soon.

That will leave a mark

I Want the Out the Door Price

While retired from the car biz, I still have an interest. Before the internet I bought nearly every book on, “How to buy a car”, that I came across. Now I browse YouTube, etc. and watch the talking heads telling people how do save thousands by following their advice (oh, you can subscribe for a modest amount).

Reality check. If your credit is so shitty you need a co-signer for cash, if you owe more on your trade than the wholesale value, and you don’t have a cash down payment, save your time. You are not in a strong bargaining position.

If you are a solid citizen, or dripping in Krugerrands like one blogger we know, your situation is different. You still won’t walk into a dealership and dictate how they will do business with you.

Back in the day you would get ten minutes of my time. That is how long it would take me to write down the M.S.R.P., add Dealer handling and hand write plus taxes and license fees the state mandates we collect. In my mind I know you want a hunting license to take to Down The Road Motors and see if they will beat the deal. Fuck you! Your one purchase won’t make or break our dealership and there is always an ass for every seat.

“Can’t you do better” was the usual question asked in a peeved tone of voice?

“What is your offer”, would be my response?

What most customers don’t know, and YouTube pontificators won’t tell, is something called Consumer Satisfaction Index. The buyer gets a survey from the manufacturer and can rate the dealer and sales person. The manufacturer uses this as a club tying things like inventory allocation, hidden rebates, etc. to the CSI. The buyer who comes in with the above attitude almost never gives the dealership a good rating. Why would a dealership want that sale?

Now we come to the much maligned 4 square. It is nothing more than a communication enabler. You may not like it. Be assured in that back room where the managers are evaluating a sale, some variation of that is on their computer screen. What you won’t see, that the manager sees, is proprietary information.

One last thing, the words of Honest Art Kinsman, the Working Man’s Friend, who I’ve mentioned in previous posts.

“I’ll take a $300 deal if I have to. It is all iron and I can get more iron than customers. Before I take a $300 deal, I will grind the tits off the customer”. Art's time was before C.S.I.

Point. If you want that super deal, be prepared for an hour or two of having your tits ground off.

Bad News

Brianna Klass, a granddaughter, was in a terrible automobile accident and severely injured. She was a passenger when the driver had a seizure. She was turned sideways trying to steer the car when they collided with another car. As my grandson Connor put it, she ended up being an airbag for the driver. Her Facebook post. https://www.facebook.com/bri.klass

She is a great human being, a hard worker, and doesn’t know the word quit. Eternal question. Why does bad things happen to the really good people?

Figures don’t lie, liars figure EV news

Long story about EV sales in Colorado.

Shambles

Key points are the huge subsidies now offered ($21K). Dealers speak well of the ‘progress’ now that they can get all that inventory off their books before the cars have more birthdays (monthly curtailments on flooring). Econazies seldom let facts get in their way.

Want a sober truth? Nationwide two year old used EVs are selling for two thirds of their original M.S.R.P.

Wary consumers will do well to check that shinny gas free ride qualifies for those incentives and/or tax credits. Often hidden is a requirement for a certain percentage must be of UAW, oppsie, USA source.

As always, YMMV.

EVs may, just may, make sense as commuter vehicles along Colorado’s Front Range. Anywhere else? You need an intervention, IMO.

Disclaimer. I’m not a baseball fan but got caught up in a click bait that read,

Not going to link. I did read some of it and was amazed to find several vendors are offering burgers with ‘vegan’ cheeses of various types. No mention if the burgers are meat.

More Nanny State and race belittlement

There is ongoing effort to ban menthol tobacco products. ‘Studies’ show among blacks who smoke, 81% smoke menthol flavored tobacco. The message I get is,

“Oh, you poor black people. You can’t make good decisions on your own so we will make them for you”.

As a heterosexual Caucasian male senior citizen, I’m not to have an opinion.

Seasonal disorder

This time of the year, should I use the sunscreen in my windshield or the windshield cover? Both, to be safe?

The trees are starting to bud. Too often we will get a wet spring snowstorm after the leaves are out and lots of branches get broken. A cousin in Boise experienced that a few days ago.

Banner’s new post COVID record

During the COVID lock down, in one day, seventeen people petted him. In a building of seniors, many who don’t/can’t drive and with few visitors, he was a godsend to many. Wednesday, eleven people petted him and four gave him treats. A few even spoke to me.

Banner gracefully accepts all the attention. When treats are in the offing he gets quite animated. The treat givers usually make him “sit”. That is a problem on tile floors as his butt slowly slides across the floor.

I supply the treats because I want to control what he eats. When questioned, I threaten to leave him and his flatulence in their apartment.

Why, WSF, do you bring this up? Because I spend a lot of time there delivering mortgage delinquency notices. Does it surprise you that the more affluent people are, the more nasty comes out when confronted?  Sisty will affirm my descalation skills are meager. Mainly, because I don’t care. Try to intimidate me? Ain’t happening.

My initial approach is polite and professional. I take no pleasure in making people uncomfortable. Sort of, “stand up, speak up, and git”. For most of my calls, that works but every damn one in Water Village becomes confrontational.
