The National Rifle Association and I have a one sided on
again/off again relationship.
Their range master programs and safety programs are
admirable. If there was a way to support those, and nothing else I would be in.
When President Trump took office, the GOP controlled both
the House and Senate. If ever a time existed to pass a National Reciprocity act
that was the time. Didn’t happen.
What the NRA seems very good at is flooding my email inbox
with fund raising appeals and dire warnings. Way too much “Chicken Little”.
Seems to me the people running the NRA day to day are part of
the insular elite crowd infesting our National Capitol (and surrounding
exurbs). Their greatest achievement is living well off the patriotic impulses
of their countryman. They can do so without any contribution from me.
The Gun Owners of America do get a few bucks from me. While there
is a lot of “Chicken Little” in their broadsides, they do actually get things
done while operating from a place that
makes the Peoples Republic of Boulder look conservative.
As usual, YMMV.

I miss the days of Harlon Carter and Neal Knox. Just for grins, this is what real gun magazines used to look like--

Agreed!
Back in the late 80s my hubby signed up for the NRA. Immediately our mailbox was flooded with paper, more paper and still more paper telling him that his rights were about to be taken away PLEASE SEND MONEY!!!!!
So his membership was one year long.
If I had it to do over, I'd try to get the money back for that year.
I've been a member for a long time, but I'm in agreement with you.
When I lived in Cali I had to take an "NRA certified" pistol course in order to get and renew my CCW permit.
I'm a member for life, but when I get emails or snail mail with NRA on it, they get deleted without my opening them or straight to the trash can.
Agreed. I let my membership lapse 5 or 6 years ago, despite their piteous mewling that Congress would take away all our rights just because I wouldn't pay. But most importantly, don'tcha know, they'd be bankrupt in no time.

Sorry, no snappy remark. Have a 65 lb Lab deciding to climb on my desk.

It is sad.

That is one of the main reason they have lost me.

It seems to be a racket.

They are doing more harm than good, IMO.
I got a good deal on a life membership through the range I went to back in SoCal, so I took it for the magazine.
And I still get begging letters from them.
Joined GOA years ago. Yep, they seem to be doing more these days than the NRA.....

GOA does get into it, effectively.
Life member since 74. It's become a racket, doing far more harm than good. They must have a crap-load of anti-gun folks on the payroll.

You may be on to something.
I am still a faithful NRA dudette. I just ignore the excessive emails. They are a powerful political power and I fear these wingnuts who keep trying to infringe on my rights, so I support the other wingnuts who protect them.

I respect your viewpoint. We can agree to disagree.
No good deed goes unpunished.
I joined my alma mater's alumni association, and ever since I am knee deep in solicitations for donations.
My dad joined the AARP when he turned 55, and got the same thing. THen those guys turned into flaming pinkos. Not joining them, either.
I sent in a few bucks to the Republican National Committee, and ever since I am knee deep in their begging for bucks lest I allow the country to go commie.
Although I am a gun owner and support the efforts to keep the 2nd Ammendment from disappearing, I do that by voting for candidates who vow to protect it (most Republicans). I am not, however, giving the NRA a dime, either. I know what will happen to my mailbox once they get their first penny from me.

My insurance broker steered me to AARP/United Health Care for the Medicare Supplement I either buy or get charged for not having. Bombarded weekly with emails or snail mail by both. What is worse is the sanctimonious overtones of their dribble.
WELL SAID.
Forgive caps, but I agree.

Thank you.
