Sister Kink Wins!

Lori Saine, term limited State Representative, apparently has won her primary race to be Weld County District 3 Commissioner.

Back in the day she managed one of the car lots I supervised. Across the street was a radio stationed run by a “conservative” who got her involved in politics.

A side note. In the car biz, “Kink” has nothing to do with sex. Rather, the way someone negotiates a car deal. Sister Kink was unable to work any car deal without putting some vicious kink in it, hence my name for her.  She did chafe under my benevolent management style

You will not find a harder worker than her, all of 5’, and the willingness to do what it takes to succeed. She lives the words of the car biz immortal, Jackie Cooper, “Winners do what losers won’t”.

She has been the subject of a previous post involving her taking a firearm through security at DIA.

The General Election should be a breeze for her. The Democrat opponent is an enemy of the oil and gas industry. Not a winning strategy in the 20th largest petroleum producing county in the USA.

Old Pilots, and Bold Pilots - You Decide

A fatal plane crash at the airport where I learned to fly  many years ago caught my attention. Yes, I’m going to second guess the deceased.

MORE

From the article.

The flight data shows the aircraft circling in the vicinity of the airport for 25 minutes before the crash.

The Steamboat airport is tricky. North-South oriented, it is 4,500’ x 100’ with a nasty drop off on both ends. There is a high ridge to the East and a mountain to the South. That said, less than twenty miles West is the Yampa Valley Regional 10,000’ x 150’ with clear approaches.  Twenty miles beyond that is the airport at Craig 5,600’ x 100’. If the pilot had enough altitude to circle for 25 minutes, he certainly could have reached either airport.

Model Citizen – DUI not withstanding?

Sadly, am all too common story. At least he didn’t kill anyone.

Sister Kink and Hardball Politics

As I’ve written before, I was once her boss. I recommended her for manager of a used car lot we opened in Windsor, CO. There, she became acquainted with Dudley Brown, founder of the Rocky Mountain Guns Owners. She successfully won two terms in the Colorado House of representatives. Term limited, she won an at large Weld County Commissioner. She lost her try during the primary to run for the newly created US House of Representatives seat. Now she is up for re-election. Her opponent is a GOP insider, former wife of Ken Buck, a five term Congressman who decided not to run again.

That picture is certainly unflattering.

My calling her Sister Kink has nothing to do with sex. I never knew, or cared, about her personal life. What griped my ass was her insistence in putting some twisted kink in every car deal. Not illegal, but also unnecessary.

My point of view was; people come to the car lot to buy a car. Let them!

Lori seemed to need to complicate every deal. I should add Lori didn’t appreciate my management style.  In that she had a lot of company. The owner wasn’t a fan of my management style but was a fan of my results.

Will I vote for her? Likely. An outsider with attitude vs the comfortably entrenched appeals to me.

Sister Kink

The recent Census has given Colorado an eighth congressional seat. Lori Saine has announced she is running.

If you search my blog postings for “Sister Kink” several posts come up. I worked with her in the car biz.

She is one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known, and her determination when she sets a goal is downright scary.

Years ago my bosses decided to open a used car lot in Windsor, CO. I found and leased a location, got the permits, etc. Who to run it? I picked Lori.

Across the street was a radio station and the owner, Dudley Brown was the founder of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Association. He and Lori became acquainted and he helped her first run for political office as a State Representative.

I won’t have a dog in this fight as I live in the Fourth district.

Good luck, Lori!

 Gerrymandered

Seems I’m in a new Congressional District.

Sister Kink, aka Lori Saine, is now running for Congress. Put Sister Kink in my blog Search and you will find several posts about her. Talking with Sisty, she remarked how pistol packing Lauren Boebert from Congressional District 3 and Lori would be quite a combination in D.C. Maybe give “The Squad” some competition?

To date, there are at least twelve candidates in the primary.

For those interested, a fairly accurate summation can be found here.

Sisty and I don’t dive deep into politics. She is guarded about her views as she is a long term board member of a fifty year old community health organization and must deal with whoever is in elected office.

Just to be crystal clear, Sisty doesn’t, and never has, made one dime for her work with the organization. It is her passion.

Ukraine

I’m not much interested in that mess other than not wanting to see any of our service members mixed in with the shitty leadership we now have.

Do read Lone Star Parson’s blog for some in depth insight. He makes a strong case for this being a religious war.

Then there is the possibility of Russian, and/or Chinese cyber attacks on our infrastructure. The shadow operatives from Obama’s shadow government aren’t any more competent than they were when he was President. His third term is even more of a disaster than his first two terms.

Locally our elected official are appalled and supporting sanctions.  Emperor Polis has directed the state pension fund withdraw any money from Russian banks. Wow! What a safe place to put employee’s life savings.

Two Wire Winter

Riding Shotgun, a YouTuber, recently had a trip across Rabbit Ears Pass into Steamboat Springs. The lack of snow is worrisome. The Yampa, along with the White River (Meeker) is a major tributary of the Colorado River. Don’t expect Lake Powell and Lake Mead to improve much this year. The snow in the Southern Rockies has been decent which will help the Arkansas and Rio Grande basins. The Colorado will be helped by the Gunnison and the Green out of Wyoming. Unless we have a huge March, next summer could be worse than last year.

A reprint of a “scientific” paper has many references to “climate change” and “global warming”. Just in case readers aren’t sharp enough to grasp the salient points, the author graciously underlined key words and phrases. Presumptuous?

Certain plants and trees, such as sagebrush and invasive tamarack, soak up water and choke out other vegetation. Native Americans understood this and would deliberately burn sagebrush covered prairies. In one to two seasons the native grasses, which bison preferred, would take over. Springs, stream flow and rivers benefited.  As an example in Northeast Colorado is the Arikaree River. Now an intermittent stream, it once had a good flow.

New Banner Hazard

We have a new resident who has installed a dog treat station Banner passes on the way to and from the elevator. Weakling that I am, when we return I toss a treat down the hall.  Off leash, he charges after it much to the amusement of some, but not all, neighbors. After retrieving it, he proudly prances around with several snorts. He rarely barks and never tries to take something off a table or counter. I won the dog lottery with him (most of the time).

Not so fast

An example of woke bureaucratic mind set.

The committee urges Haaland to "take action" to rename Devils Tower as Bear Lodge, suggesting she has unilateral authority to do so. The recommendation claims the Secretary of the Interior can rename a geographic feature if the U.S. Board of Geographic Names "does not act within a reasonable time" when a proposal is submitted.

Small problem. Way back Wyoming carved an exception. Nothing can change without Congressional approval.

Local Politics

Lauren Bobert wins her Primary race. Sister Kink goes down in flames.

Ms. Bobert switched Congressional Districts and handily won the Primary over five other (entrenched Republicans). The Donkey winner is a certified leftist. The District has been a Republican seat for the past 5+ elections. Since Uniparty Ken Buck resigned early, a place keeper was elected to serve out his term.

Sister Kink only drew about 1/3rd of the vote. I doubt she will just fade away.

The winner, Perry Buck, is an entrenched Republican. That said, she is a decent person.

As always, YMMV

Car Story

 Safety Rims

Sales Managers like their little sales training games. One favorite is the, “Six Position Sale”.  Usually done early Saturday morning, each salesperson walks around the car pointing out features to mythical customers in front of the other salespeople. Some prize is given to the “winner” for the best presentation.

Lori Saine, aka Sister Kink, is furiously competitive. She went from car sales to be a State Representative and a County Commissioner. I was her only competition at the Six Position competition. While I really didn’t give a shit about winning, I took delight in seeing Sister Kink’s reaction when I beat her.

Building value is a three step process, feature, benefit, and acceptance.  What it is, why it is a benefit, and the customer agreeing it matters.

The one I used that irritated Lori I used at the driver side front and went like this.

“Folks, did you know this car has safety rims?”

 The customer indicates they don’t.

“What safety rims will do is keep the tire on the rim if you get a flat. Say you hit some junk on the highway while you are doing 70 mph and the junk tears your tire open. That tire cannot come off the rim and jam up you steering. You will be able to safely pull off the road. Kind of important, don’t you agree?”

Lori would seethe. I would give her a grin.

In all the years I sold cars, no customer said they knew safety rims were required, by law, starting in 1932, on every vehicle sold in the United States.

 As always, YMMV

Sister Kink

One of the hardest workers I’ve ever met has gotten herself into trouble. Lori Saine, a Colorado State Representative, was arrested for carrying a firearm through the TSA Checkpoint at Denver International Airport. My guess? She has been carrying for so long she forgot she had it.

Lori and I worked in car sales for the same organization. She was a ferocious competitor and hated me for being just a tad bit better. Later, I recommended her to be the manager of a used lot we opened in Windsor, CO. She didn’t like me as a boss any better than as a co-worker. Oh, well.

Across the street was a radio station employing Dudley Brown, a controversial figure in 2nd Amendment issues. They became acquainted.

With his encouragement and support she entered politics.

I called her Sister Kink. The name had to do with the way she sold cars. I know nothing, nor care, about her private life. Her husband is an exceptional RV salesman. He endorsed her nickname when he heard it.

We operated in Windsor out of a tastefully and professionally remodeled gas station. Very attractive. In the rear two drive in bays were retained. We kept high value vehicles in them at night.

Once, after a vicious blizzard, the yokel we hired to plow the lot left an eave high mound of plowed ice and snow blocking one bay and trapping a car. Someone at another of our lots wanted the car and started raising hell. I arrived to find Lori, all 5’ of her, attacking the mound with a snow shovel. No. I put a stop to that immediately, and shut up those demanding the car in my usual gentle and tactful way.

Left to her own devices without someone (me, usually) monitoring, her ethics, those of a starving piranha, would cause a lot of heat. Such is life in the car business.

As a manager, I cared about three things. Can you do the job? Can you be relied upon to be there when the store is open? Can you be trusted with money? Lori was a solid “YES”.

I wish her luck with her current problem.

Sister Kink

See where Colorado State Representative Lori Saine (R) Dacono has managed to get herself mentioned in national news outlets, again. Not bad for a first term representative.

Lori was a minor legend in the car business and one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known. We worked together for years. She was also one of the kinkiest salespeople I’ve ever known. In this context, nothing sexual is implied.

To the best of my knowledge, she is a totally faithful wife to her husband.

Rather, it is the way she dealt with customers. Every single deal had a complication (kink) in it. Now, in the car business, “You kinky motherfucker”, is often a high compliment. In this context, she was a superstar. Not every deal needs a kink; it is not necessary. She just couldn’t resist.

Super competitive, she was driven to win every contest. We often had six position “walk around” competitions as part of ongoing sales training. As you walk around a vehicle, at each position you present advantages, benefits, and commitment.

“This car has six airbags. If you are unfortunate as to be in an accident, they will protect you. That’s important to you, isn’t it?”

Usually, I was the only person at the dealership that could best her. While I really didn’t give a rat’s ass about winning, I did enjoy making her sweat. A seasoned pro can spend an hour doing six position sales. Every item on a vehicle, if you know your product, has a selling point.

“Folks, this vehicle has safety rims. Say you have a blowout. No matter what, the tire will not come off the rim and tie up your steering. Gives you a little peace of mind, doesn’t it? And, once you are safely stopped, call your complimentary roadside service to have the spare put on.”

Now, by law since 1932, every vehicle sold in the United States that carries passengers has safety rims.

At one point, I was overseeing four used car lots. I recommended Lori to manage the Windsor, CO operation. When I say she was a hard worker, look at the pictures below. The snow plow operator piled snow directly in front of a bay door. We needed to get the vehicle parked in the bay out. I arrived to find Lori, all 5’2” of her, attacking the frozen pile with a shovel.

I think we will be hearing more about Lori in the future. If hard work, long hours, and sheer determination alone makes for success in politics, she will be there for a long time. God help us all!

Informed Voter Effort

It is surprising the time involved in becoming an informed voter.
Candidates, to be sure, require some research. Proposed Amendments and Propositions will have a longer shelf life and need more scrutiny.

Colorado is the only state to pass the Taxpayers Bill of Rights (TABOR).

Special interest groups, particularly (P)regressives,  try to get around it every election cycle.

This year’s ballot has six Amendments and three Propositions. One, #69, opens the state coffers to support Obamacare. Deny, deny, deny and dress up with pretty language but that is what it does with no spending caps or oversights – just a blank check.

One Proposition relates to assisted suicide, end of life for terminal patients. Something I’m in favor of but I will vote against this version. Too few checks and balances.

One Amendment, #71,  raises the bar on future efforts to get something on the ballot. Will require a certain number of signatures from each of the Senate Districts statewide. Right now you can gather enough in the Peoples Republic of Boulder and the free cheese areas of Metro Denver to get something on the ballot.

I’m down to deciding on local races. On those I will seek counsel from my sister who has lived in the area far longer, and is plugged into local politics. We seldom agree, me being a lapsed Democrat and her a lukewarm Republican,  but I do respect her opinions and keep them in mind.

I note with some amusement Sister Kink, a former co-worker I supervised, is running for the third time and will probably get re-elected. She is wholly owned by the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Association. If the money was right, she would be all in for Shillary. She is one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known and has the ethics of a starving piranha. The “kink” refers to her business practices. I know very little of her personal life, nor do I want to.  I’m glad I don’t live in her district.

Don’t watch television so am spared the ads. My information comes from reading and the internet.

Why do I bother? Because I can.

Road Trip

Visited McCook, NE yesterday for business, with other stops along the way. A 509 miles round trip on Highway 34. No problems, decent weather and light traffic made for a pleasant outing.

My part time gig is delivering notices to folks behind on their mortgages. These are not legal papers but are a notice that the lender wants their attention. There is often an offer for refinancing.  The company, and the manager for my area have treated me well over the years and I don’t mind going out on these trips to help them. It doesn’t hurt I’m paid well for these out of area assignments. Then, there is a saving by the late Jackie Cooper, car sales trainer; I took to heart many years ago.

“Winners do what losers won’t”.

There were other assignments along the way. One was at a new subdivision way off from anywhere. For affordable housing, people working in Metro Denver are now driving 50+ miles. Common sights in rural Colorado are take home cars.

All along the route you see Trump signs. One was a lighted sign on a tall pole. This is definitely Red State country.

When traveling this route this is always a place I visit. First, the bladder, and second to reflect on the nature of man and the value of government promises.

A favorite sight on any back haul.

The COVID scam allowed many folks to stop paying on their mortgages. How many doing so were for legitimate reasons I can’t say. What I can say is many of the people I visit are $28,000+ delinquent.  My sympathy is muted when I see full dress motorcycles, ski boats, ATVs and $80,000 trucks on the property.

Banner spent the day at  my sister's house. He does well on road trips but he can be a distraction. Home, this morning, he seems to have recovered from the ordeal.

Why bother making the bed?

Yesterday was my late son’s 13th wedding anniversary. I called his widow. She and my granddaughter were enroute to Charlestown, S.C. to visit granddaughter’s boyfriend who is attending Navy A school (whatever that is). I offered to come to S.C. and shoot him but was told that isn’t needed. My daughter-in-law approves of the boyfriend so grandfather needs to just shut up.

Granddaughter and DIL live near Spartanburg, SC. Am I proud of granddaughter?

DIL tells me all the tailoring and pressing was done by my granddaughter. I do believe she can pass any inspection.

The Monfort family sold their packing plant to JBS.

In the years the Monfort’s owned the packing plant, the left lane of the Interstate Highways was known as the Monfort lane. They used a two team driver system, four hours on and four hours off. This allowed them to run non-stop to New York City.
