Tyranny by What Definition

Tyranny

Amazing, how the intellectual left can demonize President Trump for doing his job.

MORE

Nearly every point this smug intellectual makes applies to the Democrats, to Biden, and to the Lightbringer.

The Founders recognized the large population areas will dominate any democratic process to the detriment of rural populations. We are not a “Democratic Constitutional Republic”. We are a Constitutional Republic designed to protect minorities from the tyranny of majorities.

Do you need a current example of why this is necessary? Look no further than Alberta.

IMO, we have been increasingly under tyranny from the woke left and their fellow travelers. Now, thankfully, they are losing all the ground they illicitly gained, and they are having a hissy fit.

My sympathy is for those people, many I know, that are collateral damage. People who were simply finding work where they could. Now their jobs are being flushed.

Wolves

(P)regressive meets karma

MORE

Let me be clear, I never want to see any female sexually assaulted. However, when a supporter of sanctuary bullshit finds herself in a situation far to many people experience, brought on by the policies  she has supported, I cannot help but smile.

I cannot find any verification the alleged perpetrator is here lawfully.

Eggs

Six weeks ago the egg section at Safeway was nearly empty. Now, some are reaching their pull date and are ½ price. Trump effect?

He is bragging gas is under $2.00 a gallon in some places. Not here. Perhaps we are saddled by the (P)regressive’s requirement for “summer formula”. Maybe not, Wyoming prices are about the same as ours.

Greed

Politics and Money

Do politicians spend more time raising money than dealing with their elected positions? Do they start out idealists and become corrupted by the system? Or, are they simply into politics for what is in it for them?

From my favorite movie, Used Cars, Rudy Russo explains how it works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gspX8Idr6GQ

As Elon Musk and the DOGE continue to uncover the swamp, IMO, a serious look at how people get elected needs to be examined. Hopefully, despite human nature, a better way may be found. Term limits? Limited campaign time?

In Colorado, we have several examples of incumbents running for reelection. Once reelected, they resign and their successor is picked by committee, not the voters. Stinks, IMO. Looking at you, Demorats.

Here We Go Again

Annual Fools Parades

Winter has arrived for about two thirds of Colorado, Northern New Mexico and Western Kansas. I-70 is closed off and on from Colby to Minturn. US 40 in Northwest Colorado closed off and on from Berthoud Pass to Craig. Highway 13 closed off and on from Rifle to Baggs. !-25 closed off and on from Castle Rock to Las Vegas, NM. Highway 160 from Walsenburg to Cortez is nearly impassable. For those not familiar with Colorado, draw line north from Denver to Wyoming and Northeast to Nebraska. Anything not in that area is getting slammed. So, what is the point, WSF? Every year people, who don’t bother to prepare, slide around and cause accidents. Fools go forth when they could postpone their trip for two days.

I-80 across Wyoming is the usual mess. Wind gusts 70+mph around Elk Mountain. In other words, normal.

The Election

I don’t have much to say except to paraphrase Benjamin Franklin.

“You have your country back, if you can keep it”.

Keeps on Rolling

Union Pacific Big Boy

It is so refreshing to be part of gatherings where there is zero political drama; just people enjoying a rare spectacle. So refreshing! No protesters

, no banners, no ugly confrontations.

As this magnificent relic tours the country in the West and Midwest, thousands of people line the tracks in big cities, small towns, and rural railroad crossings. I’m there with them.

On 10/21/2024 business took me near Byers, CO (population 1,600+), a flyspeck on the Colorado High Plains. A dear friend accompanied me and we watched the Big Boy pass by. While I’ve seen it many times, this was his first. Probably 200 vehicles were parked along the roads paralleling the tracks. He remarked that he will never forget the experience.

If you have an hour to spare, Jay Leno has a YouTube special about the Big Boy. One quibble, “largest………..” is not true.

Special Avalanche Advisory
A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for Colorado’s high country through Sunday, June 9. Several large and destructive wet avalanches occurred on Wednesday. With near-record temperatures on Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, more large wet avalanches are expected. Change your travel plans to avoid steep slopes if surface crusts become unsupportable and you sink into wet, unconsolidated snow or you hear collapsing sounds. These are not normal conditions for early June. Adjust your objectives accordingly. Via

Adventures in Taste

One personal change with age is less enjoyment of taste. When reading of LL’s descriptions of burritos and tacos, or K de T’s discussing drinks, the interest is there but relating isn’t. Never a gourmet, today food is more like fuel. Add missing teeth to add to the problem.

Circa 1965, we G.I.s drank 4 DM a liter cognac. Someone once gave me a taste of 5 star cognac. Shrug. Peasant.

Each night I wash down 1500mg Acetaminophen with a gin and tonic plus a splash of generic lime juice. My gin comes off the bottom shelf, usually around $14-16 a large bottle. On the top shelf the same size runs $45-60 a bottle.

Do I suffer any angst being cheap? Hell no!

Water Walking

One City facility offers a “lazy river” feature.  Hourglass shaped and 3’ deep, the current is fairly strong. Since the first of the month I’ve been using it most days and the results are encouraging. I’m walking better and my knee pain has lessened.

Poor Banner hates being alone in the apartment and it is now too hot for him to stay in the car (where he is quite content). Two neighbor ladies take turns hosting him for an hour or so. He cowboys up and manfully tolerate staying with them.  The ladies assure me they don’t spoil him.

War on Coal – Wyoming Focus

I like this lady and appreciate her suggestion Boulder, CO show the way to a carbon free world.

 Abused Dog

My oldest son needed a good ass chewing. I used the cell phone. Banner was lying on his day bed nearby. When I went to feed him breakfast he was afraid to come to his bowl. It took several minutes of petting, a short walk, and treats before he realized he wasn’t the one in trouble and became his normal happy state.

Back story. My oldest, 51, has always been autistic. He is fairly high functioning. For several years he has had a cell phone I pay for with unlimited minutes (which he uses, and uses, and uses). May 12th, due to a change of credit cards used to pay the account, his phone was off for six whole hours. Since then he has sent me one to three emails a day about the %#%$%^&* phone.  During this time I have explained, over and over, the problem is solved and is not likely to reoccur. So he starts off my Sunday morning with a email saving he is worried about June 12th and his phone not working.

I called him and ripped him a new asshole. Autistic or not, when his behavior becomes disrespectful, he relishes pissing and moaning, and using Dad as a punching bag, he needs reminding just who he is communicating with. Poor Banner got caught in the blast.

Hail Hell

This is becoming one of the worst Springs in recent years for destructive storms along the Front Range and the High Plains. Last week DIA got hit. Sunday the hail repair specialists had their tents set up in the rental car lots. Sisty tells me Manheim Auto Auction, about eight miles SSE of FIA, has some 4,200 vehicles with hail damage.

Car dealers have two basic choices. Pay through the nose for hail insurance, or gamble. Vehicles with hail damage claims get “salvage” titles. The others? Think many nefarious ways to fix them and sell them without disclosing the damage.

One dealer I know bought them cheap and sold them cheap. All sales, cash. The buyers went to their own financial institutions, got loans, and came back with the cash. AS IS……

Pro Tip: When shopping wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Invest in a cheap mirror with a handle. Bring a flashlight. Always, always wiggle under the dash and use the flashlight and mirror to look for mud and/or water marks. I’ve seen “flood cars” so detailed all traces were gone. The inside of the dash can only be cleaned by removing it. Then, since you are already dirty, look under the vehicle for intact exhaust systems and rust.

Truck frames should be looked at closely. Some have C frame and some have boxed frames. Toyotas with box frames are especially prone to rusting from the inside out. Frames nicely coated are, to me, a red flag. Any sign of rust or fresh undercoating is a signal to have an independent mechanic put the truck on a lift and closely examine it, at your expense. If the seller refuses, walk away.

Veterans Administration

Sorry about these. Maybe someday I'll learn how to remove pictures posted in the wrong place.

6/10 had my annual VA physician visit. I think it is mainly to prove I’m still alive. It must have gone well as I now have an appointment next year.

BP 120/80 Oxygen 92%. Is that too shabby for someone who will turn 80 next month? What is satisfying is I’ve outlived most of my enemies.

Some prescription medicines are all I rely on from the VA. That saves me about $800 a year.

Recent knee examination showed bone on bone on the inside of both knees. Not a surprise. Replacement at this time is not recommended. Weight loss will help. Steroid shot in each knee for now. Age is bitch. The doctor looks like he just graduated high school.

Damn, I must change my ways

Next year (Jan 1) no more holding a cell phone while driving goes into effect in Colorado. This old geezer will need to read instructions, learn how to use Bluetooth (whatever that is) to link the phone to an earpiece, buy and install a cell phone holder, etc. Yeah, I hear a bunch of you saying, “Oh, poor baby”. I will continue to bitch, regardless of what others may think.

Hail

Colorado had a bad hail storm that hit Yuma hard (5/20-5/21) overnight. Golf ball to baseball sized hail stripped vinyl siding off some buildings. Roofs everywhere destroyed. My sister’s sister by another mother lives in the area and is facing challenges.

Korf Motors in Yuma had one new car roof punctured, like shot by a bullet punctured, by hail per one of Sisty’s insurance adjuster friends.

Democracy is wonderful until it isn’t – Ballot initiatives

Wonderful, until your pet ox is being gored. A long article about efforts to place initiatives into law bypassing the legislative process and having voters decide. This has seen past success in Colorado (wolves, anyone). A recent successful initiative will put a constitutional amendment guarantying a right to abortion on the 2024 ballot.

MORE

My last foray into the process was the Weld County, WY effort. That went nowhere.

Shrewd Hire

Deion Sanders, Coach Prime, as head coach of the University of Colorado football team. After many dismal years, all season tickets are sold out for the second year in a row. Sales of sports paraphernalia has soared. Interesting, he isn’t the highest paid coach in Colorado. That is the head coach in Ft Collins at CSU.

Rick George, the Athletic Director, has used all this new revenue to improve facilities for all sports. Lights for the soccer field as an example.

Disclaimer. I’m no CU fan. That said, I admire the way Coach Prime runs his program. He demands high standards in academics and behavior. Several high profile 5 star players have left because of those standards. He hasn’t wavered and I admire him for that.

Plus, my evil heart relishes the angst of the woke (P)regressives that invest Boulder County and CU. A God fearing and preaching black man in their midst who speaks his mind and damn the torpedoes? How do they attack him? How do they bring him back on the plantation? TeeHeeHee!

Iranian Helicopter crash

Two other helicopters, per reports, were accompanying the bigwigs and didn’t have a problem. Further, it took ground crews to find the crash site. Now, LL may be correct about the Jesus nut. That is the simplest answer (Occam’s razor). All the political intrigue that permeates that part of the world along with the many Mossad successes, will we ever know (or, given the assholes who died, care)?

I feel so protected

My Colorado tax returned showed up in the mail. The accompanying explanation explained their effort to combat fraud. Democrats worried about fraud? Perhaps they are motivated to hang on as long as possible to the $800 TABOR refund every filer is entitled? Nah, couldn’t be that.

To be clear I’ve loathed this department since 1968 when my wages were attached for taxes levied against my Army earnings even though I spent one day in Colorado after joining.

 Military Service Story

Prompted by a conversation with another veteran.

Germany, 1965, First Lieutenant Fuckup was leading a road march to the Rhine River near Leeheim (49°51’17.99”N 8°23’18.55”) and directed his driver to turn right at an intersection.

“Sir, I’ve been to the bridge site several times and this isn’t the route”.

“PFC, I gave you and order”.

 “Yes Sir!"

The road quickly became dirt then a dead end.

Our unit was a float bridge company with some 112 vehicles. Most were five ton trucks pulling a 5 ton trailer.  Now about a dozen were sitting on this “road”.

Soon the German farmer, who owned the fields, and maybe the road, came bouncing over the field in his VW. The M151 driver spoke decent German and the farmer was of an age to have been in the military. Lt Fuckup had walked back towards the trucks and was ordering the drivers to back up.

The irate farmer came up to the driver saying,

was hat dich dazu gebracht, diese Straße hinunterzufahren?“

To which the driver answered, with a gesture towards Lt. Fuckup, replied, “Leutnant”. The farmer simply nodded his head.

After the company commander and 1st Sergeant arrived, it took an hour to get back on the correct road. Those trailers were hard to back up and we resorted to towing with another truck to keep the trailers straight as the driver backed up the five ton.

Lt Fuckup was by far the most incompetent officer I ever served with and has appeared in previous blogs.

When she said she couldn’t assemble it, he volunteered to come to her apartment and assemble it after he picked up his kids from school.
