Shucky Darn

Last night’s evening walk once again taught the hard lesson of maintaining situational awareness.

Walking Banner while engaged in what Sisty calls over thinking, I tripped over his leash and went flat face down on the sidewalk. Picking myself up, I finished our 1 ½ mile route. Two hours later my left knee was nearly immobile.

Today I’m barely hobbling. I’m not looking forward to driving my manual transmission truck.

No, I haven’t sought medical treatment. Nothing is broken, just bruised. We are in the middle of another COVID-19 “outbreak” and anyone with even a sniffle is being admitted to the area hospitals. Time is the healer.

The joke making the rounds is, “I can’t believe how old people my age are”. I just wish I wasn’t living the punch line. I’m not seeking sympathy, just sharing how once again I’m earning my blog title.

Oh no, I'm sorry. Knees are not fun, I hope you are recovering. Always found heat more helpful than ice. My PT guy says the reason the area gets inflamed is because blood supply improves to the wounded area to help it heal. Tossing ice on it actually slows down that process.

I had a conversation with my daughter not five minutes ago regarding falls.

I was moving something large but not heavy, with great deliberation. "Oh Mom! Is that too heavy for you? Let me get it!"

"Nope. Not heavy. But I'm firmly convinced your grandma and all her falls are why she's bent over and can't walk anymore without her walker. She started at my age doing a headlong dash through life and fell over and over and over and over. She paid no attention to where she was putting her feet. She STILL DOESN'T."

So the point here is to slow the hell down and pay attention to where you're going, dammit!!!!

Good advice.

Thank you for the offer. I can't deprive my little sister the opportunity to bust my chops. I should be back in service by Friday.

I'm hoping by Saturday I can function at 85%.

Well, that sucketh. My last poorly executed ballet move landed me (mostly) on my left shoulder and arm. Took about nine months before I got full rotation back. Funny part (now) was that I had my keys in my left hand when I went down. When I went to start my truck, realized I had bent that key. Fortunately the street lamps in that parking lot were sorta Art Deco, so found a seam in the steel casing and used it to straighten out the key. Still using it.

Some people suck it up and keep on trucking. Others play the "Poor Little Me' card.

YouTube,"Matt's Off Road Recovery", has examples. Damned if I haven't become addicted to watching it.

As of this afternoon I can walk without a cane but with a bad limp.

Geez sorry to hear about your tumble, heal up and carry on.

I had home health check up yesterday, part of my medicare health sup... My person was a nice gal, traveling PA, from Star Valley, Wyoming. I passed all the tests, and then we talked about loving living in the back of beyond...

Still swollen but I can get around now without a cane. Had a bunch of assignments come in so it is "cowboy up" tomorrow locally for ten calls and Tue/Wed Eastern Colorado and the Nebraska Panhandle for nine more. That will be an overnight trip. All the COVID-19 mortgage forbearances are expiring. The mortgage companies want to make sure the mortgagees are put on notice.
