Day Tripping

My employer wanted a debtor contacted near Glenwood Springs, CO and upped their offer until my greed took over. It turned out to be 472 miles round trip excursion.  Like many states, Colorado has two seasons, winter and construction. Add the many rock falls that require mitigation and the Google Maps travel time forecasts are laughable.

Sorry, no pictures. Technical problems (sick computer). Very little snow in the high country now as opposed to trips over Vail Pass in the winter.

Oh, how I revel in the scenery, no matter how many times I’ve made the trip. Oh, how I get frustrated with the ^%$@@$%^& brain dead tourists.

One trip I enjoy is west on I-70 from Grand Junction to the intersection with I-15.

Miles and miles of this.

Reward is scenes like this.

Now days I’m more of a homebody.  Semi-retired and all that.

Did you convince the debtor to pay up?

The "State Flower of Colorado" looks to be blooming nicely along that stretch of Interstate!

And I've been at that rest stop, and along the road with the big switchbacks.

The first time you see it takes your breath away.

That view coming down the hill is spectacular!

Great view from the curvy road.

I was paid to hand deliver a letter and "encourage" the debtor to call the lender. Mission accomplished.

I've molested many electron pixels at that stop. The lady selling the jewelry did such a job of presentation I bought something. Not my thing but the person I "gifted" was pleased. Lower gears recommended descending the hill.

After heading west out of Green River, UT, you come up to it. It stretches for miles like a fortress wall. The only gap is where the highway goes through. Before being widened, it was only 12' wide per the information plaques on site.

That part of Utah attracts me.

When my son and I drove out here, we didn't have any trouble pulling the trailer through the mountains. The interesting thing was watching the cruise control downshift to maintain a set speed as we were descending the grade.

Few cruise controls will cause the transmission to downshift. The ones I have driven were all Chrysler products.

Just a couple of months ago, I drove that route from Colorado Springs to Denver and thence Fallon, NV, via I-70 and Hwy 50. 1000+ miles at 45 mph or less. And that area, with the grades and switchbacks, was "less". LMTVs are not known for speed.
However, I was able to relax and totally enjoy the scenery, and took full advantage of the rest areas to see the views. Absolutely incredible, cannot be photographed well. And desolate...
Glad the drive went well!

What little traveling I've done in WO, NB, KA, was mostly on interstates, but even those had great scenery... if not just straight drives. Off the interstates was really great.

If not pressed for time, I avoid Interstates.
