Mundane police calls as reported by the
local rag serving our small city.
2:15
p.m.: Greeley police responded
to a grocery store in the 2100 block of 35th Avenue for a report of a man who
parked too close to the line, making it harder for the caller to load her child
into the car.
7:30 p.m.: Police
responded to a park pond in the 400 block of 35th Avenue for a report of an
alligator sighting. Once on scene, officers asked a woman if it was possible
she saw a snake or a turtle instead. The woman described what she saw as “a log
with eyes.” Officers approached the pond to investigate, at which point they
encountered a beaver.
9:30
a.m.: A woman called Weld
County dispatchers claiming to be “America’s Most Wanted” and “testing the
emergency broadcast system.” The woman said she was recently released from a
mental health institution where she was participating in a study “undercover.”
When asked if the woman was intoxicated or on drugs, she replied “I’m under the
influence of God.”
2 p.m.: Police
responded to a Greeley residence for a report of “some kids” who had “done
something” to the caller’s car. When police arrived at the scene they learned
the children dropped a sack of marbles and were picking them up. Some of the
marbles had gone under the caller’s car.
4:30 p.m.: Police
responded to a park for a report of a homeless man acting weird. When asked to
explain how the man was acting weird, the caller said the man was picking up
children’s water bottles and smelling them.
7:45
a.m.: Police responded to
the 2700 block of 19th Street for a report of a woman, carrying a bag of flour,
walking in circles around the caller’s trashcan.
Like any place where there are people, we
have crime. Burglary/car prowl is the most common and, always, drugs and the
problems associated with drugs. Still, it is nice to live in a boring burg.
Does make it hard sometimes to come up
with a blog subject.

Hey, after living in SoCal for the last 35 years, "boring" is just fine with me!!
I was amazed at how quiet the scanner is out here compared to SoCal. Can't listen to FoCo because a previous Chief of Police had the encryption turned on. But the Colorado Highway Patrol, Larimer County and Weld County Sheriffs Departments provide plenty of activity, along with the various Fired Departments. Not sure if I can receive the Greely PD from here, but I'll look into it.
Boring doesn't bother me. Too many years of living in 'interesting' neighborhoods.
Someday I'll tell you about the time I lived in San Pedro, about 6 blocks from Da PJ's, and 4 blocks from "the wrong side of the tracks".
Had a lot of interesting things happen back there....
Downtown Renton, WA - fun place, not.
If you want to see boring, look at the crime stats for Happy Jack, Arizona...
I can visit high crime hells. I could stay in a flop house and listen to hookers tricking through one thin wall while a latch key child cries through another and sirens screech back and forth on a noisy street all night... but I doubt that I'll visit. I've had enough civilization to last me three lifetimes.
LL
Been there during 3+ decades on the road.
Agree with LL, that's why I live in a small town.
Old NFO
Understand.
