Memorial Day

A day to remember those who died serving our country and keepin us free. Please remember, some didn’t die on the battlefield but later succumb to their injuries suffered in the service.

I'm sorry for your loss, WSF - no, they did not all die on the battlefield.

Thank you. Before he joined we had a long serious discussion. He wanted to be a medic. I pointed out that was as dangerous a job as any in the military. We discussed the potential for being disabled. He joined with his eyes wide open and with the approval of his wife.

I've accepted his death and am at peace with it. My heart is torn when I consider his children. In the day before his death he had purchased a fishing pole for his youngest son. Riley never got to go fishing with his Dad. Crystal never got to perform her NROTC drills in front of him. Jan is reminded of her loss every time she enters their bathroom where she found him slumped over. It is those kind of things that grieve me.

I too wore that four leaves of Ivy patch on my shoulder and feel a kinship.
Life ain't fair.
But you have the right to be proud that the world is a better place for his contribution.
I hope he rests in peace. And I hope you are at peace in your heart.
