Envy is often felt when reading other’s blogs. They find
interesting things to write while I struggle to come up with anything others
might find interesting.
My biggest excitement? Finding wasps building a nest in my
pickup’s bed by the filler. Removing was tricky but accomplished without getting stung.
A couple of nice toys were seen this morning on our walk.
Yesterday an assignment took me to Walden, CO. Due to
wildfires, went via Laramie, WY as the direct rout was closed. Ended up at 348
miles round trip. During the trip I didn’t see any deer or pronghorns which was
unusual.
Several departed relatives are buried in the Walden cemetery.
I stopped to pay my respects.
Next week has two assignments, one in Rawlins, WY and the
other in Julesburg, CO. Unless a night in a motel is used, will need to do them
on separate days. Per Google Maps, doing both the same day is a 645 mile 10
hour trip. Sorry, not young anymore. Back in the day did trips like this week
after week.

I found a wasp nest in the gas filler door of my dear, departed Jeep a couple of months ago. Only had a few "cells" in it, but stopped me cold when I flipped open the filler door!
And I've knocked four or five off the eaves this summer. I think we have the ground burrowing wasps here, too, but not sure if I've seen any.
In general I leave insects alone - mother nature and all that. Exceptions are those that can hurt me or make me sick. Wasps and cockroaches make that list. For the rest, there is insect repellent.
The ground burrowing ones usually don't bite.
The first summer here we had all these "black bees" going in and out of some gaps on the siding. I looked them up, and they were Carpenter Bees, and they have to get really riled up and/or roughly handled before they'll sting. I sprayed some foaming "Carpenter Bee Killer" into all the gaps, waited a few days, and caulked them up.
Killed a Black Widow spider in the basement today. Heard SLW go to DEFCON 1 down in the basement, and went down to investigate. Nailed it with a can of "Electronics Freeze Mist", scooped it up, and flushed it down the toilet.
And when I'm moving around the stack of apple wood I cut up in early spring, I always wear good leather gloves. Those little critters seem drawn to stacks of wood!
I'd forgotten about spider bites. Once had a swollen arm for a week from a bite.
