Wildfire Season IV

The smoke plume from the fire WNW of Ft Collins has shifted with the winds, now flowing SSE.

The same shift has carried the smoke from the other fires away from us and towards Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Another view of the statue in Wildfire Season III.

Per my sister, the city allocates 1% of all projects to public art.

Hopefully they get it under control. Sad that so little goes to local artists.

I'm not sure just how it works but will check into it.

I'm watching the Cameron Peak fire quite closely. It's in an area they can't really get to due to terrain, so they have six choppers, little to big, dropping water on it. They're decided on a very defensible perimeter, and that's what they're working on getting ready. Cutting firebreaks, doing controlled back-burns, removing trees, improving roads, and all kinds of logistical stuff that you wouldn't think about, but are critical.

They're impression I got from following their press conferences is that they're pretty much going to let it burn. They're doing all the heavy lifting in more accessible areas, and are going to let it burn out and come to them.

Latest maps are here:

Not much else they can do. Resources are stretched thin.

The Monsoon season has finally (late) come to Arizona, bring a TON of rain in some localized areas. Now the damage isn't fire, it's strong gusty winds.

Great art notwithstanding, stay safe!

Here in Hillsboro TX they cut down all the trees in the center of town and didn't replace them with anything but concrete, not even art.

If I was more politically aware I'd question who made $$ off of that stunt and how much.

Some decisions are jowl shakers.

The developer of a project has to submit the 1% of the project cost to the City. Local artists are used almost extensively, keeping the talent & $$$ local. As some of the art starts showing signs of deterioration, it is cycled out of that location and a new piece moved in.

As usual, you are on top of everything!
