Mergers are in the automobile news.. Stellantist is shedding car companies world wide. Honda is picking up Nissan. Great news!

Toyota is picking up Subaru. I’ve mixed feelings about that.

Stellantist is a case of bean counters making manufacturing and engineering decisions with the immediate bottom line the only consideration. The result is unreliable vehicles with horrible repair costs.

Will Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Ram survive?  Some dealers are sitting on two years of unsold vehicles. The vehicle reliability and quality suck.

A YouTube channel worth watching is CarEdge. Good information. I wouldn’t pay a penny for their services. As someone who sold cars for decades, I loathe their advice.

“What is your bottom line out the door price?”

Come to the dealership, face to face, and find out. Otherwise, fuck off and stop wasting my time.

I was selling Fords when Henry II checked out and Petersen took over as President. He implemented, “Quality is Job One”. Two years later Ford made a greater quarterly profit than the rest of the industry combined. All those electronics gewgaws mean nothing if the car won’t start or breaks down on your way to work. Worse, when there are so many engine failures that your vehicle sits at the dealership for ninety days because no replacement engines are available.

LSP writes fondly of London while discussing cities he likes. I have a hazy fond memory of this German town.

During my tour of Germany (1964-1966) the Kennedy Half Dollars were issued. The Germans were huge Kennedy fans and would pay around 5 Marks for one. (The exchange ratio was around 3.80 DM to one US Dollar). My parents would send me rolls of 50 cent pieces and I would sell them to the Germans. That made for some nice pocket money and some interesting social interactions. One night a buddy and I stopped in this German town. The locals were holding a Sekt Fest (sparkling wine) to raise money for some cause. We were asked to buy drinks for the servers, local townspeople volunteers. My buddy, more fluent than I, determined the their goal was to raise 400 DM. We coughed up 300 DM, declared an open bar, and got all the volunteers and attendees  drunk after some of the locals, not to be outdone by GIs, opened their wallets. We, of course, stayed somewhat sober (of course, WSF). Our good fortune was  being E-5s  on a weekend pass. Somehow we were able to sign in before 0600 Monday morning.

 Sorry, LSP, lower standards, and all that. Might we suspect you weren’t always a model soldier?

A rally the Detroit area SCCA sponsors. The name always struck a chord with me as that is my approach to life, in general. However, recently while running some errands I skipped grocery shopping. 

“Self”, I told myself, “You are retired, have no pressing commitments, have ample food in the apartment, and can come back when there are fewer shoppers”.

Someday I might embrace being semi-retired. Old Air Force Sarge will be my role model.

Starting the New Year with peace of mind

Cackles wasn’t elected. My rent increase was less than my social security increase. The difference might buy a Happy Meal; not complaining. My next washout check from my paper hanging gig will let me zero out all credit cards. My sons are doing well and my grand kids all seem to be on a positive path. I’m breathing air and taking nourishment.

Los Angeles Fires

It shows a lack of character not to have sympathy for people who have lost everything. That’s me. For once the elites are hit by their own stupid policies instead of hard working families in the Sierras.

I’m reminded of a California transplant, years ago, who was in a ditch off a snow covered road in her new Jeep Wagoneer. We drove her Jeep back on the road with no problems after we read and implemented the 4WD instructions on the dash placard.

My devout  hope is those now homeless LA residents don’t relocate in Colorado.

Kindness of Strangers – Banner specific

Several residents of our apartment complex are concerned he may be starving. There are two ‘treat’ stations on our floor. At least three other residents carry treats with them.

 

Rather than fight the situation, I supply the treats. The wrong treats give him extreme flatulence.

 The joy he and the treat givers enjoy brings smiles and laughs to everyone (except the miserable haters – f**k’em).

 Blasted dog will eat almost anything. So far the only thing he has rejected is garlic stuffed olives.

Letter to the Editor – ‘Gun Control’

I will be amazed if it is published. At least one leftist puke will read it before hitting ‘delete’.

Gun Violence.

Once again we see some state legislators feverishly working on gun violence. What a waste of time. Per the FBI published reports, we have an annual firearms death rate of about 80,000 per year in a country of 316,000,000 people. About half are suicides.

We have a crime problem. Criminals use guns, duh. Will criminals obey even more draconian laws?

All the time and energy expended by legislators posturing to their voters, “Look, we are doing something!!!!”, takes away from tackling real problems, like drugs. As an example, how many babies are born each week with drugs in their systems just here in Greeley?

Legislators, let law enforcement deal with gun violence. Tackle real problems instead of posturing and fear mongering.

Then along comes massive thunderstorms with tennis ball sized hail. Those crops not pummeled by hail are flattened by high winds and/or drowned from excess rain.

Enemy of the State

Recently, circumspection was advised to avoid being labeled, “An enemy of the State”. Good advice, but too late for me.

My activism began

in the late 1960’s after leaving the Army and then attending College. The VA was screwing over Vietnam era vets. Three other students and I started with a table at the end of quarterly college registration. A few years later, long after I’d moved on, it grew into a fairly large and active movement among the colleges and Universities in Colorado.

I married a stubborn 1^st generation Norwegian (Ya sure, ya betcha), who as a USO volunteer, had stirred up a hornet’s nest about the mistreatment of certain airmen at Lowry Field. These were fuck ups that were in a disciplinary barracks, with no heat, and very limited medical care.

Later, our first born was severely autistic. This prompted us to become active once again.

Wife was hired as a reader/aide for a blind employee of the Department of Education. After six months she was still a temporary. The manager told her getting clearance was the problem, that her and my combined FBI file was 5” thick (before computers took over). Eventually, she was “let go” during a “reorganization”.

How do you become an enemy of the state? Seems all you need to do is exercise your rights as a citizen.

From time to time the FBI actually catches real criminals. It seems most of their efforts are directed to compiling information on vocal, but law abiding, citizens.

Seems the courts are taking a dim view of the ATF assuming the power to write laws that Congress didn’t pass. Could this be a trend?

Currently the BLM is radically changing rules on use of public lands. Primarily this affects cattle and sheep grazing but can easily be expanded to all types of recreation. Might the courts put the BLM in its place? One can hope.

These are hardly isolated practices.

Perhaps President Trump’s greatest legacy will be the 500+ Federal Judges he nominated that are now on the bench.

My “part time” job is keeping me busy. I could easily make it a full time job if I accepted all the assignments offered.

Legacy

One of my two remaining aunts died this year (cancer). This past Saturday a remembrance was held at the Wheatridge, CO Historical Park. The land was once settled and worked by several generations of our family. My remaining aunt was born in the sod house and my late aunt in the brick house.

She had five children. We lost one to cancer several years ago. Her surviving children organized the remembrance. As I sat there I thought of her children. Good, honest people raising good honest children and great grandchildren are her true legacy, IMO.

Salesmanship

The Taurus I purchased had good tires but were not adequate for the conditions I drive in; unplowed icy rutted residential streets and/or dirt country roads (often muddy). Happy with the Firestones on the Buick I was disappointed to find their price has gone up 30%. Further, the manager of the store has moved on and the current group doesn’t impress me.

Doing some research I found Falken WINTERPEAK F-ICE 1. The reviews were good so I called the local store (Peerless). The manager said,

 “We sell a lot of them to rural mail carriers”.

Sold!

So far the tires are everything I wanted and handle the conditions as well or better than the Firestones.

Snowpack

Good news so far for next summer’s water. Only the Arkansas River drainage is below average. My rancher friends in Steamboat Springs say the snow was over the 4^th wire on their fences but has settled to a three wire. Another two good storms should put the snow over the fence posts.

The deep snow is hard on the elk and deer population and likely will cause above average winter kill.

Coach Prime Time

The University of Colorado hiring Deion Sanders to run the football program is creating a big buzz. While I’m no Buffalo fan, for the sake of friends and neighbors who are, I hope this doesn’t turn out to be another Russell Wilson/Denver Bronco fiasco. Since the Buffs won just one game last year he can’t do much worse.

Good luck to him and the people he is bringing with him as they navigate the Boulder housing market. Can you say, “sticker shock?”

The Denver Gazette fact-checked Polis’s claim that Colorado falls in “the middle of the pack on crime rates,” and discovered that Colorado’s crime rate is higher than the national average.

According to the FBI, only Washington, D.C. had a higher property crime estimate than Colorado.

Our health care premiums saw the second largest increase nationwide!

Private health insurance premiums rose higher in Colorado for 2023 than every state except for one.

Axios Denver reports Georgia came in first place with premium spikes as high as 20%, followed by Colorado with a soaring increase as high as 19.6%.

The nationwide average increase for health insurance premiums in 2023 is 4%.

For those who excelled in the study of equity and inclusion but must Google simple math — those numbers suck.

 Win, win, win 

First win. The lady who sold me the Taurus had a stress free sale with cash in her hand. Second win. I now have a nice car at a very reasonable price. Third win. The Buick went to a very decent couple who are struggling. The wife is caring for her elderly mother who lives off a dirt road thirty miles from their home with hit or miss snow plowing. The Buick is a tank in those conditions so their primary vehicle can stay with her husband.

Firearms rant

The motives of those politicians calling for “GUN CONTROL” are, to me, highly suspect. A few are undoubtedly sincere but most are just posturing. They know what they are proposing won’t work, is likely unconstitutional, and unenforceable.

“Look, we are doing something!!!!”

The harm is the distraction from other, serious problems that aren’t addressed because of the time spent posturing. Nice way to deflect attention from their lack of accomplishments that solve real problems.

Civil War

Upcoming civil war is a common topic on the internet as people become angrier with those in power, elected or behind the scenes. I anticipate we will have violent protests in our future. The question I have is, “What is civil war?”

From Wikipedia:

A civil war or intrastate war^[a] is a war between organized groups within the same state (or country). The aim of one side may be to take control of the country or a region, to achieve independence for a region, or to change government policies

I don’t see this happening, especially along the lines of the American Civil War/War of Northern Aggression. The key?  Organized groups.

Give the FBI credit. They can’t seem to find auto theft rings, catalytic theft enablers, Islamic jihadists, or Chinese spies but  excel in infiltrating groups opposed to government interference in our lives. That makes organized groups, beyond very small cadres, ineffective.

What seems to have been the common element in past civil insurrections are one or more leaders people will rally around. The closest in my lifetime is Donald Trump.

What are more likely are individuals, or very small cadres, conducting sniping and bombing campaigns. MANPADS vs private jets? Old fashion mortars? Is Martha’s Vineyard within range of a mortar on the mainland? That would ruin a garden party. Pain, suffering, and death among the presently coddled elites might change some attitudes.

At this point the only seemingly directed mobs are BLM and Antifa who are most likely government sponsored and protected.

Yesterday the barber I visit cut my hair. He is from Iran and I inquired about his take on the current riots there. He is of the opinion that the exiles who want back in power are behind them; that there are no leaders, and that the rioters won’t change anything.

Who am I to say he is right or wrong? What I heard echoed was a sentiment many in this country have about our lives.

To sum up, I expect the future will bring more pissing and moaning but no civil war. Unrest, rioting, vast increases in crime, and hand wringing by politicians, yes. Civil war, no.

Feel free to express your definition of civil war.

Thoughts on Law Enforcement

YouTube has many clips of citizen’s interacting with law enforcement. Many are First Amendment related encounters. For some people, it seems to be a sport. They do highlight LEOs ignorance of laws and aggressive behaviors.

With many relatives in law enforcement, most retired now, I have mixed feelings. Included, at least in my mind, are probation officers.

To me, they fall into two categories. First, and having my highest respect, are peace officers. Second, who do not have my respect, are “cops”. The YouTubers seem to highlight “cops”.

Now I recognize they deal with assholes, often drunken assholes, and need to deal with the situation at hand. It seldom is a win/win situation.

One of my sons had a serious drinking problem resulting in three DUI arrests. During the third arrest, it took six police officers to subdue him. Whatever steps they had to take I support. He was the cause of the problem and their job was to get him off the road.

Along the way, he had a probation officer that got him sober, kept him sober, and made him toe the line. Results? He no longer drinks. He did well enough to be released early from probation. That was eight years ago. Hasn’t had so much as a ticket since.

One cousin was so rank he was booted off the LAPD force. At the time he was in the Rampart Division during the Rodney King era.

Another cousin had a stellar twenty nine year career and is the nicest person you will ever meet. He also, along with a city policeman, rapidly ended a school shooting/hostage situation in New Mexico. No shrinking violet, he. His wife was an effective probation supervisor and straightened out another cousin. (I have living and dead, 33 or so first cousins)

A cousin’s husband was, in the 1970’s, the only probation officer covering a vast portion of Nevada. When a parolee needed arrested, he had to do it, and often without any backup. He did a good job.

My oldest son is a functional autistic but easily manipulated. When he was seventeen he tried to rob a bar. His weapon of choice was a small tree branch. When two Renton, WA police officers entered the bar, he let out a shriek and charged them. In taking him down and cuffing him, he sustained some scrapes and bruises. When I arrived at the station, both officers were nervous. They visible relaxed when I thanked them for simply restraining him. Their response was appropriate and they would probably have been justified in using deadly force. Dim bar and a screaming man with a weapon charging them probably met the criteria for deadly force. They released him to my custody.

A great example of a peace officer was my late brother in law, a county deputy. Once he was tasked with serving over twenty failures to appear warrants. His response was to contact the individuals and advise them that they needed to turn themselves in. He inquired as to them having someone to watch their children and could they work something out with their employer? Did they need a bail bond referral? He also let them know if they didn’t promptly take care of their warrant, he would be back to arrest them. Only two or three didn’t promptly and voluntarily turn themselves in at the county jail.

Before entering the service in 1963 I lived in Denver. At that time, seventy two (10 % of the force) Denver police officers were sent to prison for operating a burglary ring. People, in the know, told me the reason organized crime hadn’t gained much of a foothold in Denver was the police force ran things. The burglars were the ones who couldn’t get into the good stuff.

Other than professional truck drivers, I’ve probably driven far more miles than the average citizen. Regarding speed limits as advisory, I’ve had numerous interactions with law enforcement. I’ve always made sure to take steps to lessen the tension all LEOs have approaching a vehicle. My windows are down, the interior light on at night, hands on the wheel, and license and paperwork readily at hand. Only on a few occasions have I dealt with “badge happy” officers.

Once on Hwy 287 in Oklahoma I was stopped. After the preliminary stuff, the officer said, “Mr. White, it is eight miles to Texas. Do you think you can do the speed limit until you leave Oklahoma? With my affirmation he sent me on my way. A few days later, returning to home, I stopped in Boise City, OK for coffee and bladder relief. Exiting the car I head,

“Mr. White, I’m happy to see you doing the speed limit”. Turning, I saw the patrolman sitting in his cruiser.

“Why officer, I didn’t see you”.

“We hide”, he responded.

That is a peace officer!

This isn’t my first blog on this subject. The search engine, for those interested, will bring up at least four posts.

One of my sister’s adopted daughters had a nearly thirty year career with the Sheriff department. Starting as a jail warden, during a time when females faced many obstacles, she rose to being a patrol sergeant. As a detective she solved a decades old cold case murder. The perpetrator now sits in a Colorado prison.  A slim 5’4”, too many people underestimate her. She has a steel core while remaining as nice a person as you would care to meet.

My principal disdain is reserved for the FBI. As near as I can see, they are political hacks who occasionally solve a crime.  I made a specific post about the FBI and the actions of one of their agents.

Our society is a better place when we have peace officers and justice. Justice being swift, sure and color blind. Utopia, I know, but working towards that should be our goal, IMO.

What Goes Around Comes Around

The Mainstream Media, or as Bloviating Zeppelin labels American Mainstream Maggots, work for just a handful of companies owned and run by the rich. They, the media, report and/or slant, what they are instructed by their employers. Disagree?

They are opposed by our own 21^st Century samizdat, aka The Internet, and a few courageous individuals reporting real news, however inaccurately. From them we learn of the FBI and January 6, and the recent imported fanatic they shot down in Texas (after he served his purpose) and many other perfidious operations by our own government.

OK, WSF, where the hell is this going? Just this. Since WWII our clandestine operations all over the world has left a legacy of tried and proven means and methods to destabilize and disparage those regarded as enemies. A few those blew up for whatever reasons got some publicity but most were, and remain, buried in secure files under lock and key. Pick an Alphabet agency, your choice.

All those tried and proven methods are now being used against the citizens of the United States, IMO. The swamp, stung but not broken by President Trump, is in ascendancy.

Around the world there must be many who were on the losing side of US clandestine operations taking quiet satisfaction in seeing what goes around comes around. They are a resource, if willing to be used, as a source of knowledge of what worked against “us”.

The ugliness is just beginning. To save our Constitutional Republic, we must embrace the ugliness or just roll over.

The "racist" in the White House has had the greatest impact on the economy, bringing jobs, and lowering unemployment to the Black and Latino population of ANY other president. Ever.

The "liar" in the White House has exposed the deep, widespread, and long-standing corruption in the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, and the Republican and Democratic parties.

The "buffoon" in the White House turned NATO around and had them start paying their dues.

The "fool" in the White House neutralized the North Koreans and stopped them sending missiles toward Japan, and threatening the West Coast of the US.

The "xenophobe" in the White House turned our relationship with the Chinese around, brought hundreds of businesses back to the US, and revived the economy.

This same “clown” lowered your taxes, increased the standard deduction on your IRS return from $12,500 to $24,400 for married couples and caused the stock market to rise to record levels, positively impacting the retirement accounts of tens of millions of citizens.

The “clown” in the White House fast-tracked the development of multiple COVID Vaccines which are now available or will be soon. And yet we still don't have a vaccine for SARS, Bird Flu, Ebola, or a host of diseases that arose during previous administrations.

The “clown” in the White House rebuilt our military which the Obama administration crippled and fired 214 key generals and admirals in his first year of office.

I got it, you don't like him. Many of you utterly hate and despise him. How special of you. He is serving you and ALL the American people. What are you doing besides calling him names and laughing about him catching the China virus? Some of you were even hoping that COVID would be the cause of his demise. (Ah, the left. The party of “tolerance”. )

Please educate me again as to what Biden has accomplished for America in his 47 years in office, besides making the whole Biden family richer? By the way, where is Hunter?

I’ll take the “clown” any day versus a fork tongued, hypocritical corrupt liar. I want a strong leader who isn’t afraid to kick some butt when needed. I don’t need a fatherly figure. I don’t need a liar. That's what Hollywood, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and the New York Times are for.

This relative is no shrinking violet. Rodeo rider, Seabee, and a twenty+ year career in law enforcement (and he didn’t drive a desk). He has sisters who will vehemently disagree as will several cousins we have in common.

Perhaps the current crop of politicians should re-read the Constitution.

First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Yes, dismiss the thousands who peacefully assembled because of the actions of a few. As to the actions of the “few”, sure made the insulated Congresscritters aware they are not invulnerable. Bravo!

Lest we forget, a Trump legacy is the number of Federal Judges appointed and confirmed including a Supreme Court Justice who did not graduate from Yale or Harvard.

He still hasn’t conceded despite what the American Mainstream Maggots (h/t BZ) are reporting. It is not over until it is over.

Just in case my file hasn’t been updated recently, and my place next to the stove in the re-education camp not reserved, this post should take care of that. You have been warned.

We, the taxpayers, fund this.

Note the righteous certainty, of the people quoted, of their beliefs.

Anyone who might disagree is dismissed, their beliefs of no importance, and their very existence a hindrance, nay, threat to the world these people want. The very idea those in disagreement might, just might, have real and legitimate grievances doesn’t seem to enter their thoughts. Such utter arrogance!

An undertone in the article and remarks by those quoted is fear, fear of the right and the desire to neutralize the right.  I don’t know what they fear. Most people on the right are law abiding hard working people trying to raise families. They won’t do squat except squawk. 300,000,000 firearms just sitting threaten nobody.

What is needed by the right is George Soros level funding to create and sustain a core of professional organizers backed by on call lawyers. The professionals can then direct operations that sting and terrorize the left. Examples would include sabotage of infrastructures that benefit principally the deep state and associated parasites. Say the Washington D.C. beltway suburban communities. Silicon Valley. Martha’s Vineyard. Aspen. No electricity, no water? That will get their attention quickly.

Violence? Sniping the election officials and elected Secretary of State office holders around the country who took an oath to provide fair elections and violated their oaths. Wounding, not killing, as their actions don’t warrant the death penalty. They are soft targets. Look at what was accomplished in 2002 by two perps in what was called the D.C. Sniper attacks. Moreover, they picked random targets.

So, WSF, will you lead the charge? The answer is no, I’m of the “won’t do squat except squawk” coalition. My excuse? Age and finances. That hasn’t always been the case. My late ex-wife and I had a 5” thick FBI file (pre digital age) per her supervisor when she was hired to be a reader/aide for a blind woman in the Department of Education around 1990.

Her crime? Was the catalyst for a Congressman raising hell over the conditions and neglect  of miscreant airmen in “retraining barracks” at Lowry AFB circa 1965.

Mine? One of three veterans that started a college veteran’s organization taking the Veterans Administration to task over late payments and lost paperwork. We founders dropped out after leaving college but the ad hoc organization once had 3,000 members statewide in Colorado.

In later years the ex and I became founders and officers in the Seattle chapter of the National  Autism Association. The Education for All law in Washington State was drafted by three women on our dining room table and my ex worked three years to get it passed.  

We were minor, very minor, participants in the political scene.

All these activities put us on different shit lists, something we took pride in.

The above is meant to establish some creditable basis for my rants.
