Enforce the Law

Seems the people who hate firearms are all butt hurt  that restrictive laws passed are not being enforced. Examples include New York and Connecticut where owners are required to register their “assault weapons” (whatever the hell that is) and are not in huge numbers. Some estimates range as high as 90% non compliance. This cannot be allowed to continue!

Since the police are already stretched thin, and seem reluctant to enforce these laws, I recommend the firearm control proponents be drafted into formations along the lines of Sheriff Posses, given some training, and be sent door to door to check for illegal firearm possessions. This could be part time work and even be given a stipend.  Imagine how good they will feel about themselves after walking the walk instead of just talking the talk. Perhaps Bloomberg could put up some bucks to get this started and offer himself as a leader.

Yes, I think this is my best idea to date! After all, what could go wrong?

Arapahoe High School

One confirmed dead, one seriously wounded, and one slightly wounded is about all the facts known right now.

Already Facebook has exploded with, "See, see, see, I told you so, I told you so, I told you so" postings.

Don't worry about facts, emotions and feelings are FAR more important. Once again it will be the firearms owner's fault. If we didn't insist on having our dangerous toys, something like this WOULD NEVER happen. What, you don't AGREE??? You vile person!

Here come the waves of smug self righteous and indignant posturing. How nice to target a group with spite and hate, and have it socially acceptable.

Kiss my ass, gun grabbers.

Silly Question? Maybe Not

I wonder how many adults who are all for gun control were, as children, bullies or "mean girls"? Just from my own youth, I can think of a few.

Think they miss the delicious feeling of power over others? Now, the once powerless have the means to balance the power? That enrages them?

Nah, WSF, you are getting dotty in your old age.

"Gun Culture"

I keep seeing the term “gun culture” in the press, usually in something negative about firearms use and ownership.  Being unsure just what “gun culture” means went with Google and found this in Wikipedia.

If you look for other “cultures” involving tools, about the only thing is chainsaws, and that is mainly involving films.

Seems to be a handy phrase to suggest negative connotations without having to explain or defend anything. It assumes the writer is in some way in control of the moral high ground and expects uncritical acceptance of the writer’s points.

I’m not sure how to combat it other than calling them out on their shit when an opportunity presents itself.

Pop Psychology

In trying to understand what motivates gun grabbers and their fellow travelers, came up with this bit of pop/freshman psychology.

Three motivators; fear, revenge, and punishment.

A lot of people flat fear firearms. They are not the least interested in learning anything about firearms; they “cling” to their fear.

When something like school or theater shootings occur, there is a strong desire among people for some sort of revenge.

Along with revenge is the desire to punish someone. So lets punish the firearms owners. After all, if it weren’t for firearms owners’ obsession with their toys, there wouldn’t be firearms. By extension, there wouldn’t be shootings.

I think may of us believe there are nefarious schemers who want us disarmed so they can more easily pursue their schemes. They are proficient in tapping into the fellow travelers psyches and use them as a weapon.

So, how does one discuss the subject with those who are not rational?

Why do I allow my basic biological urges to  influence my choice of female companionship? Probably because I’m a well seasoned fool.

Starbucks

On Valentines Day I will buy coffee at Starbucks in support of their gun neutral policy and send a copy of the receipt to their headquarters.

Hat tip to Guffaw in Arizona

I don’t like their coffee; don’t like the taste. Always a reminder of unpleasant times. Three things come to mind.

Pre cell phones, my business took me on two Washington State Ferry rides per week. With no telephones on board, I had thirty minutes to an hour of peace and relaxation to catch up on paperwork and savor a cup of coffee. Then Starbucks got the coffee concession. I didn’t like their coffee at all. There was no alternative. This wasn’t espresso, regular coffee, just their roast, and I didn’t like it. Still don’t.

Had dealings with one of Starbucks founders (not related to coffee) and found him to be an arrogant asshole.

When the espresso craze started in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, the machines were made in Italy and cost $3,500. Looked into setting up a business selling coffee, lottery tickets, and tobacco. Planned to call the business “Minor Vices”. I couldn’t build a business case that made sense to me. This ranks up there with some of my other brilliant decisions like “Forest for Trees.”

Will go buy a cup anyway if only to thumb my nose at the gun grabbers. Yes, I know I’m shallow and superficial. Deal with it!

Blinded by Arrogance???

My sister says I think to much during the hours I spend driving. She may be correct. The only time the radio is on is when I get sleepy.

So I got to thinking about Fast and Furious. The “smart” set that thought this one up, continue to pedal along their predetermined path, even when the whole thing is blowing up around them. The impression I get is they think they are so smart and we are so dumb, they can still pull it off. As a possible alternative, they mainly talk to people who already agree with them. Thus, they don’t fathom the problems catching up to them.

Next spurious thought it this cluster fuck may be typical of all the grand schemes the Lightbringer’s accomplices have created. This gives me hope that all their schemes will ultimately fail.

They have, and will continue, to create a lot of pain, debt, waste, and time consumed to fight, stop, then reverse the country’s course but it is doable.

Then again, I probably think too much, and not too clearly.

Gun Control???

When a recent business meeting, held in the capital city of the Peoples Republic of Boulder, ended, I had lunch with a group of ultra liberals. The subject of gun control was raised (not by me). “Why”, asked one, “Are you gun nuts against any sensible gun control measurers.”? “Because”, I replied, “You gun grabbers are liars”. After I made the point that labeling someone as a gun nut or gun grabber didn’t lead to any reasoned exchange of views, we, as a group, had an actual conversation.

I stressed we all have a mutual interest in curbing criminal behavior. Gun owners are not giving up their firearms. Gun control advocates will not find any common ground with gun owners so long as they use deceit as a tactic, i.e., the “Gun Show Loophole.” Or tolerating a system where Veterans, who put their asses on the line for our rights, are administratively deprived of those rights if they truthfully answer certain questions asked by the VA. That patient/doctor confidentiality is compromised. Thank you, Sen. Shithead. There are many examples but I used those two. To my surprise, some of the group saw merit in what I had to say.

The people who don’t like firearms do have one valid point; safety. We’ve all seen them, the yahoos whose unsafe practices make you want to dive for cover. Those of you who are range officers all have examples to share. These yahoos scare the hell out of folks and, right or wrong, they see all of us in that light.

One modest proposal. Most states have a requirement for a hunters safety course and endorsement before you can buy a hunting license. Can’t this be used as a framework to insure more firearm owners have some basic safety and handling instruction? It is a requirement in Colorado before getting a CCW permit. Have what you want on your own private property. Be required to have a valid safety card to have a firearm in public.

If something like this was offered by the firearms community, I think some of the opposition would be in support. The result would be a safer country, the fanatic gun grabbers would have fewer allies, and it could be a bulkhead against more extreme proposals.

Enforcement of existing laws isn’t consistent. We had a period of time in Colorado where the firearm laws were enforced and the enforcement advertised, much like DUI laws, Violent crime went down. An ambitious federal prosecutor was setting up a run for the US Senate (failed). With his departure, the effort died down. What I hear from the law enforcement, courts, probation, and corrections communities, is the system is so overloaded with drug cases, DUIs, and domestic violence cases that compromises must be made. The problem is, compromises become excuses and the status quo.

Age hasn’t made me a total cynic. I still believe reasonable men and women can find common ground for common purposes. Your mileage may differ.
