Best Book Title Ever?
Those who are familiar with Elk Mountain can appreciate the
title.
I'll have to look for that book. The summer we came Out West we took I-80 from Joliet to SLC, and then 84 up to Ogden, where my sister would be attending college.
I've never, to this day, seen it rain as hard as it did along I-80 in Wyoming. The rain was blowing sideways, and the car was rocking back and forth. We could barely see the end of the hood, but Dad kept pressing on.
One summer day going East on I-80 the tailwind was so strong my Lincoln Towncar got 32 mpg. Same trip, at Arlington was a pickup and attached 5ht Wheel travel trailer on it's side with a forlorn looking couple sanding alongside. Seems they had pulled over because of the wind and standing still were blown over. I offered them a ride into Laramie but they had a wrecker coming.
Old joke. Wyoming is so windy because Nebraska sucks and Utah blows.
I was born in Wyoming as a matter of arbitrary lines. North Park is the headwaters of the North Platte River and flows through Saratoga. North Park was once part of an inland sea that cut a canyon to the northeast when it drained. The Platte is the result.
Next Summer take the Supra up 14 to Walden then to Encampment. Go over the Snowy Range Highway to Laramie then through Tie Siding to home. Lots and lots of up and down and many, many curves.
sparkee Winter months I drive the extra 20 miles through Medicine Bow and Hanna. I can drive in any weather but prefer to not share the road with amateurs.

Blown over while standing still? YOW!!
Makes me think the stories about Wyoming people using logging chains for windsocks is true!
Chains as windsocks might be a tad over the top.

The wind chill can reach Atic levels. My sister, an insurance adjuster, gets called out there several times a winter.
LOL, good one! And WAY too cold for me!

Not just the title that is arresting. Amazon has the book for $95!
Drove I-80 just about a year ago and the weather at Elk Mountain was beautiful. Not usually so nice in winter, though.
