Screwed, Blued, and Tattooed

In April, my vehicle registration was up and the vehicle didn’t pass the bi-annual emissions test.

After a considerable delay, repairs were made and the vehicle passed the emissions test.

When I renewed the registration today, I was fined $100 for not renewing the registration in April, plus the registration fee, and the registration expires next April, not October.

Tis a privilege to live in Colorado.

Yes, your benevolent government taking that extra step to ensure that the tax revenues flow.

Don't you just love how government works? I certainly do.

Then again, maybe they just dinged you for the extra C-note because your vehicle was just so dang homely. I'm just guessing there...

Yep, they sure don't cut you any slack on registration here. Even though I still had valid Kommiefornia plates on my Jeep, I got clobbered for $80 because I didn't get the registration done quick enough to suit them.

And I'll have to get it smogged again this time. Last time I just went to the King Soopers and used the kiosk.

The emissions process is a real PITA.

Old NFO
Yep!

Fool: appearances do indeed count: go ahead and give me a body count of all the ugly women employed as Fox News anchors and correpsondents. Or female country western singers. It won't take long, perhaps around 0.00 seconds - there ain't none.

Appearances count.

Doubt many thieves and ca jackers are attracted to my Mitsu - got that going for me.

Yes, any self respecting thief wouldn't dare to show up at the next thieve's convention in that thing, you are entirely good to go in that regard.

I knew a guy in San Angelo TX who had a Ford F150, an early one, 1970 or so; it was an eyesore of the worst kind, with a ratty old broom sticking out of one of the bed corners. But the mechanics of it were first class: old drum brakes replaced with disc brakes, fresh crate 351 Windsor V-8, Edelbrock this, Offenhauser that, stainless steel exhaust, MacPherson struts in front, gas shocks in back, I could go on. He swore he would never touch the nasty looking sheet metal, or take that broom out of the bed, saying "no thief in his right mind would touch this truck with a 10-foot pole, and if I ever fixed the body, it would be gone in a New York minute."

Both times I took a car to Air Care Colorado I was in and out in about 20~30 minutes, and I thought the price was reasonable.

But then my previous experience has been in Kommiefornia, where things are a bit....uh...."different" than here.

I also put razor cuts on the new tab so it can't be removed in one piece.

I've had it go both ways. The cost is fixed by the state.

Sorry to hear that, easier in Texas, thank God. But we have to ask, what do these taxes actually achieve, how do they benefit us? Education? That's absurd. Roads? Not really. Drains? Er, maybe, ish. Cops? OK. Local Gov employees? Oh yes, what a tremendous bargain.

Not that I'm cynical, bur=t maybe we need a tax strike. Like 1776.

Emissions are not required statewide - just along most parts of the Front Range. Crazy quilt leading to some creative scofflawing.

WSF, you had an opportunity to donate more to the government - to do what Bernie and Liz keep saying that you should do A LOT MORE of.

Thank you. I now feel so much more virtuous.
