Check EGR light came on in my old beater
truck at the same time the bi-annual emissions check to renew the tabs came
due.
Wonderful! Pay some shop $80 an hour plus
parts to deal with it. How many current techs know anything about an obscure
1986 Japanese vehicle?
Started searching online. Seems my truck
has the light come on at intervals based on mileage to remind you to check the
EGR valve and Oxygen sensor for proper function. The light is reset by flicking
a switch on the back of the instrument cluster next to the speedometer cable.
Drove down to a slender, and younger,
friend’s house. A few minutes later, with the aid of a flashlight, he found the
switch. Repositioned it and the light is out.
Did I check the EGR valve and replace the
Oxygen sensor? Get real.
Next step is a new air filter, fuel
treatment, oil change, long drive on the highway, and then to the Emissions
station. Did the same thing the last time.
Loath the whole emissions ripoff. The placed is staffed by TSA rejects, but with
wannabe cop attitudes. Forced to watch through the windows as some half assed
jerk revs my truck’s motor with a moronic grin on his face doesn’t make my day.
Once again access to the internet has
saved me time, money and aggravation. Yea!

Because I put an auxiliary fuel tank on my Toyota FJ, the function and check engine lights are on near constant amber. I can reset it, but they will be back on soon. The WWM is far enough off the grid that I no longer need to have emissions checked...That ship has sailed for me and I hope that I will never need to go through that BS ever again.
I do spray-clean my Mass Air Flow Sensor after driving in heavy dust, etc. and do check sensors like that from time to time just because it will F-up my rig if I don't. Learned though experience on that account.
I can't wait to get out of the city and into the hills. There I will sit on the porch (in my dotage - non compas mentis- and unaccountable under the law), shotgun across my lap with a vicious feral dog (named Butch) by my feet, eyeing any revenuers who approach with a jaundiced, amber eye. Or maybe I'll say to hell with the dog and I'll get a pet bear.
That's a winner!!!
Yep.
How about a cat? Seems the jaguar is making a comeback in Arizona.
I had to fight the emission sticker thing for years. Now I live in a smaller, more country county and it is not required. Lucky me!
Don't miss those lines so long they would make a WalMart manager blush?
There are jaguar up near the WWM or so the locals claim. Having one on property to climb trees and drop on revenuers would provide endless amusement.
I think that to complete the picture, I will also need to build a still. Sitting on the porch, rocking with a shotgun in hand and a jaguar named Melania doesn't work well without a mason jar filled with clear liquid close at hand.
Thumbs up on the still. Soak some cinnamon sticks in it for a month or so. Goes down real smooth.
My suggestion: get a 2017 Ford F150 4x4 Super Cab. They are real nice, pass emissions easily, and only set you back about $50,000.00. Plus options...
No need to thank me.
Excellent suggestion. There is, however, the small matter of 50k.
Just dig around under the cushions of your couch, cash in some pop bottles, and you are there
