This, Also, is The 2nd Amendment

“Can you open the door for me”?, a woman in a motorized wheelchair asked me. Her transporter was inside a MacDonald’s by one of the entry doors. She wasn’t sitting in the chair. Rather, she was lying straight at about a 45 degree angle. Her salt and pepper hair was neatly combed and she was wearing immaculate pressed blue scrubs. She had a blanket around her legs. Peeking out from the blanket was a tea cup Chihuahua. How long had she been waiting for someone to help her? Can you imagine the frustration?

“Certainly, I replied. Which door? Are you sure you have control of that brutal beast”?  Her reply was strained,  her volume low, and I realized she could only speak with great effort. Using her right hand  to manipulate the joy stick, she exited and started across the parking lot.  This woman is helpless. She can’t even cry out for help. Her only protection is a two pound dog. I don’t know what mobility she has in her hands but, if any, she should have something that goes bang for protection. Even a .22 Derringer. Can you imagine the fear she must live with?

Think she could ever qualify for a CCW permit? Range test? Financial cost?

Nearly every politician running for office says, “I support the 2nd Amendment……………but………hunting……common sense………..blah, blah blah.

Kind of like, “Some of my best friends are ………………………

                                           OR

We’re Christians, and ……………………

That woman needs more than the kindness of strangers or a freak’s fear of the judicial system. She won't get it. The smug asshats won't even give the safety of someone like her a passing thought.

MacDonald’s? I use their restrooms and buy a “Senior” cup of coffee. Hope they lose money on the transaction. My preference is for real food.

Good By, I Found You a Good Home

Just sold this pistol.

Three years ago, decided to get a CCW permit. Took the eight hour class; passed. Now the “practical”. Seems they expected me to fire from 100 to 200 rounds in a day at the range. WTF? No way I’m putting even 50 rounds out of my .44 Special with a 2 ½” barrel in one day. Superman I’m not.

Purchased a “cheap” Eastern European Walther clone in .380 just for the class. Ended up not following through with the CCW process. The additional $200 or so to the local sheriff pissed me off. Stayed “outlaw”. Fuck em.

Really didn’t like the .380. Had the trigger reworked. Still didn’t like it. So I sold it to a young friend. I’ve been shooting with him. He is safe and responsible. He is happy, and I’m happy with some cash to spend on what I do like.

Oh, the agony of having to decide what to buy! Feel my pain.

Youngest son has a 9x18 Makarov I like. I still miss my .22 revolver. Have always wanted a Colt Woodsman or similar from Ruger. Still upset about the deal I missed by two days and fifty dollars on a pristine .30-.40 Kraig for under $400. My first firearm, bought on my own with my own money, was a Kraig. Think I was around fifteen. Should I stop being totally cheap and get a new Savage package in a .270? Decisions, decisions.

So it is back to lurking around gun shows, gun stores, and Auction Arms. Painful yes, but I will survive. At least there is no significant other to consult (not that I ever did).

Close Call - PTSD

Just missed going on the NICS background lists as mentally incompetent thanks to the smiling lady at the Veterans Administration. At the urging of friends, applied for and was approved for VA medical care. It is not something that I need or want to use now. In the future, who knows? Can’t hurt to get it set up, right?

Said lady was screening me as part of the process to set me up with a primary care facility and primary care person. Lots of questions. Inoculations, medical history, surgeries, etc. and then the Post Trauma Stress Disorder screen. Four simple questions. Having been a salesman most of my life, I can spot setup questions as fast as they are uttered along with the body language and voice tones of the questioner. Me, admit to PTSD? No way, but she almost got me. Then the sex questions. “Was I every subjected to…………”? Answer, “Yes”. “Have you suffered trauma because of this”. Answer, “No, the trauma was suffered by the person making the unwelcome advances”. End of questions. Thanks to the senior Senator from New York (a gutless asshole who has never once put his personal safety on the line, who wants to disarm you and me while he is licensed CCW) most vets can be barred from purchasing firearms just by answering four generic questions the wrong way. If I am wrong about this, please correct me.

I was treated well at the VA Hospital. The process was fast, well structured, and the personal comportment of the staff I encounter was very professional.

As to PTSD, I know some veterans have been emotionally devastated by their service experience. In no way do I not respect their experiences. The majority are, I believe, like me. I was an asshole when I went into the Army. The Army didn’t cause that. When I got out I was the same, only with some stress added.
