Steam engines fascinate me and I rarely miss a chance to
see one working. Today the “Big Boy” returned from the Western Excursion.
The location is at the Hermosa Tunnels SE of Tie Siding, WY. Thankfully the rain had stopped but the drive up US 285 was in rain from Livermore to just past the Wyoming/Colorado line (Pumpkin Vine Road).
For those who enjoy precision, the snaps were taken at:
41°04’42.44”N 105°27’53.22”W elevation 7,975’ ASL.

Always nice to see the old iron fulfilling its intended purpose. Thanks. EdC
My Dad worked for the Denver & Rio Grande. I grew up watching steam engines and once rode in the cab of a 2-8-8-2 Mallet from Tabernash, CO to West Portal and back. Even got to blow the whistle.
Another fond memory is a tour of the UP Steam Shop in Cheyenne when the 4014 was apart and being rebuilt.
Thanks for sharing those! We live vicariously through you! :-)

Glad to share.
Sorry I couldn't make it due to a Doctor's appointment. At least we know what's on the other side of that gate now!

We should have followed that jerk in the white pickup.
Steam engines are awesome. I want more, many more.

4014 will be in your area Oct 11-12 on display in Ft Worth. I don't know the rout yet but you should be able to see it running.
