Cowboy Up!
This weekend is the Sombrero Horse Drive. 2-500 horses moved from Browns Park to west of Craig, CO. Too late this year but if you have $5,000 or so to spare you can do it next year.
On Sunday the drive goes past Maybell, CO. Our paternal family has a multi-generation history in that corner of Colorado and adjacent parts of Wyoming and Utah. We have a family gathering around that date each year. On Saturday we visit the private family cemetery on land homesteaded around 1913 that is still in the hands of family members, approximately 20 miles west of Maybell.
Side note: Maybell has the distinction as the coldest recorded temperature in the state, -61°F.

Want a
2nd Home in Wyoming?
Wyoming has many isolated, out of the way, places. Bedford may be as isolated as any. Lying in the Star Valley between two mountain ranges and served by one highway, the few Star Valley residents are mainly LDS (Mormon) followers. The Jackson Hole pustule is a hard 69 mile drive away along the Snake River.
Given the financial means, would I buy the place? Hell no! I would rather live in a sheep wagon.

Colorado 8th Congressional District
Created after the last census, the Republicans nasty primary fight resulted in an establishment wingnut candidate that independent voters found distasteful. The Democrat winner is a decent person that votes party line and tends “woke”. Polling suggests she might have trouble getting re-elected.This is the district I live in. The probable Republican candidate is a solid conservative.
Of interest, but not important, both the current office holder and her presumed opponent are Latino.

Wolves doing what wolves do, duh!
What warms my evil heart is wolves expanding their range and are now appearing along the Front Range. What will happen when a golden doddle gets eaten in Boulder County?
Another sign Biden isn’t running

I’ve never understood the need for a Space Force in the first place.
Plain Talk
One night I was working a deal with a man with bad credit. After the third pencil (offer), he roared out, “You go up there and tell that banko fag we are the only place that can get him financed and that is the payment!”
Going behind my desk I started, “Jeff, we…” when he cut me off. “I heard”, he said. “Where do I sign”.
Australian Invasion
There are other players and wannabe players. China is lurking in the background with some of the players. Surprise?
TABOR – The (P)regressive’s never

The Democrats are determined to move Colorado from #13 among state debt at $67 billion toward #1 California $520 billion.
Pesky thing, Constitutions. Lawsuits to follow.

Look forward to changes in labeling rules so that the consumer won’t know what they are eating.

$5K to Sombrero Ranch is a bit steep. Never understood why Maybell did not market this more, at considerably less than the ranch participation fee.
Did you deliver the eviction papers to the castle?
There is no current in Blue Mesa Reservoir so it would be easy to build a floating bridge there. Guessing the Army Corp of Engineers has them in stock. Did you build these? Cannot remember from a previous post. Not sure who relies on the bridge. Gunnison can be served from the east. Montrose from the north. Cars can drive the "piloted" route about 35 miles; no semis or trailers allowed. CDOT says "no estimated time for reopening." So I guess it will not reopen for at least a year if at all.
When the golden doodle is attacked and disappears, the state will ignore it, no proof. Eventually, wolves will grab a child or female hiker or jogger. Nothing will change though the conspiracy theorists will be vindicated.
Every time I look at a map and see Craig, I think of you and Sisty. Does the $5k include everything? Not that I'd do it, but just curious.
I'd love a 2nd home in Wyoming, but I've got my hands full with this one. I look at that one and see some fine locations to mount antennas!
As far as Colorado drivers, I've heard things on the scanner that either make me shake my head, or blow coffee, like the guys in the pick-up chasing a cow around a roundabout....
How deep is the water there? A pontoon bridge looks like it would do nicely.
I'm still ticked off about "Emperor Polis and His Wolves". That guy has zero appreciation for the history and culture of the state.
Hadn't heard about nationalizing the Guard. Another excessive grab for power. If TSHTF, I would hope most Guard members would serve their community. And yeah...."Space Force". More like "Space Farce". At least the USAF won't be the #1 choice for military humor.......kinda like Jimmuh Cotter no longer being the worst President in US history.
My GM dealer friends would always joke about "There's An Ass For Every Seat", at which point the GMAC guy would chime in "And I Can Finance It!". Fond memories, indeed.
I readjusted our dog harness to fit Luna, and I've been walking her. She's a sweetheart to walk, EXCEPT if she sees a rabbit. I wasn't being attentive yesterday, and she spotted one, yanked all the slack out of her leash, and pulled me off me feet. I felt like Linus when Snoopy would grab his blanket and pull him around. went down on my knees, and I'm still sore!
Sombrero Ranch, like others, uses Brown's Park open range for winter grazing. The elevation is around 5,200 ASL and it is a 'hole' completely surrounded by higher ridges. Maybell has a population of around 80, with 100 different opinions as how things should be done. Other than hunting season and the horse drive, not much happens there. They do have a decent camp ground/city park with showers and some hook ups. Staying there is not cheap.
Sombrero Ranches is a large dude operation, especially in Estes Park. They cater to dudes with high enough prices to keep out the riffraff. The $5,000 for the horse drive is, I believe, inclusive.
I spent 30 months with the 814th Engineer Company (Float Bridge), Pioneer Kaserne, Hanau. We bridged the Rhine twice a year at the place where Patton's Army crossed. Other rivers were the Main, the Donau (Danube), etc. We also did a lot of ferry operations.
Access around the closed bridge is restricted to local residents. Bridging the reservoir would be no problem but access to the bridge heads will take some work and might ruffle sage grouse feathers. Blue Mesa, when full, is 350' deep in places.
Banner has pulled me off my feet a few times. One time he saw a rabbit and jerked the leash out of my hand. As he ran around a parked car, the leash got jammed in a tire and he did a loop de loop. Other than making friends with the skunk I haven't had a problem.
Once again, we see people who've never been punched in the nose making decisions for people who are getting pummeled.
To wit: If that azz-whole with WildEarth Guardians is truly "sympathetic to the livestock owners' losses" and anyone with half a brain knows he ain't, he should get out his checkbook and start making things right, personally. But it ain't his cows and it ain't his money so he ain't gonna be writing any checks anytime soon.
Enjoy the time with family, and that 'detour' is gonna suck!!!

Old NFO
Had a good time and have come back refreshed.
Mr. WSF, is it true that CO is giving illegals free homes? If so, maybe it's time to take advantage.
Good to know wolves are back.

Denver is going broke being a 'sanctuary city'. I can't keep up with the (P)regressive madness. To the east is Aurora which has always been a pimple on Denver's ass. It is starting to go hard right. The Mayor, Mike Coffman, is a former Congressman among other things. My guess is the Denver residents will see Aurora's success and force change.
