Clickbait or Content?

Well Shucky Darn

In my last post I bitched about clickbait.

Then I posted the blog title,“If You Have Some Time, You Might Find Something of Interest Here”

Must be clickbait as I’ve more than doubled my normal hits.

Alarm!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible, after careful review for waste, positions can be restored? Example, forest fire fighters have already been rehired. What should not be restored is the three to four levels of “management” we have been suffocating under for decades.

After the OKC bombing, I noticed a positive change, at all levels, in government employees attitude and conduct towards the public. Over time, they slid back into their old ways. Will President Trump’s election and actions prompt a change in their behavior, at least at the federal level?

Drill, Baby, Drill

Advances in technology and techniques, freed from stupid government interference, promises a boom in recoverable oil and gas. While admittedly I don’t understand all the details in this report, it gives hope that energy independence is within reach.

Starting around 1969 three underground nuclear explosions was used in Northwest Colorado as a way of fracking. For various reasons beyond what I can explain the test didn’t produce the desired results.

Two married friends of mine were the teaching staff at the small Piceance Creek elementary school near where one test took place. The schoolhouse got a good shaking.

This was part of Project Plowshare:

Project Plowshare was the overall United States program for the development of techniques to use nuclear explosives for peaceful construction purposes. The program was organized in June 1957 as part of the worldwide Atoms for Peace efforts.

More Oil – Unitah Basin (Eastern Utah)

This has been kicking around for years. A rail spur to connect with a Union Pacific main line will bring waxy crude oil to refineries that can process it. Currently what little oil being produced is being hauled by truck over two lane roads. The rail spur will bring job and associated economic growth to one of the poorest regions of Utah. The opposition comes from the trust fund snots infesting the Colorado River drainage.

Wolves and Mountain Lions Need Food - Donate Your Pet (or Child)

Wolves

Cute and adorable, right? Watch the video.

MORE

Not so cute and adorable for ranchers.

MORE

Now the same envirowhackos who got wolves introduced by ballot initiative were able to get an initiative banning hunting mountain lions on the fall ballot. Last year 504 lions were taken legally.

The voters for these initiatives overwhelmingly live along the Front Range. The voters against overwhelmingly live in rural areas. Ain’t democracy wonderful?

Unintended consequences? A major lion habitat is the Rocky Mountain foothills, also known as the Front Range. Domestic pets are much easier prey than wild animals.

Per a 2023 Colorado Outdoors Mag report, there have been 25 known mountain lion attacks on a human since 1990 – the last verified mountain lion-related death in Colorado took place in 1997 and involved a 10-year-old in Rocky Mountain National Park.Mar 25, 2024

Social Security Data Breach

Seems up to 2.9 billion SSN are compromised. I found a link to check mine and I am among them. Interesting that the address is over 15 years old and my d.o.b. is wrong per the site I visited. I’ve had a credit freeze with the three major credit reporting agencies for several years. In addition, I use an AVG program to keep me off data broker’s lists. I should be ok.

Forget kneecaps. Every hacker located should have their fingers and thumbs broken, one digit at a time.

Shoplifters

Added an item to the cart, and paid for it. Once home, opened the package and found it empty. Guess someone opened the package, pocketed the contents, and put the package back on the shelf. A $5 item – not worth going back to the store. Lesson learned? Shake a package before putting it in the cart. Even old dogs can learn new tricks.

Having more than enough accumulated sins to answer for, I don’t add more by shoplifting.

Death by a thousand cuts? Natural Gas

MORE

Other than seeing their own energy bills go up, do any of these assholes face any serious consequences from their policy decisions? Related question? How can agencies set policy decisions without enabling legislation?

My bet some smart lawyers are already seeing how the Supreme Court Loper decision can be applied to state agencies.

How long will Colofornia remain blue?

Statewide, unaffiliated voters now number 1.8 million, or 48%. Democrats are at 1.2 million, or 27%, and Republicans at 900,000 are at 24%

As a natural course of action, the shellback Republicans continue to go out of their way to piss off Independents. Currently, they are so embroiled in internal power struggles they can’t present a united front. Rather, they seemly try to sabotage each other. The Democrats just sit back. Why interrupt your enemy when they are making mistakes?

Why do I care? Reining in the (P)regressive whack jobs won’t be accomplished with the current infighting. I dislike the GOP positions far less than the Emperor Polis crowd.

Once Again, Captain Obvious

A personal dislike is complainers without a solution. People who can explain, in great detail, what is wrong but cannot offer a solution. Their job is to bitch, mine is to fix, or so it seems.

Our economy is based on the consumption of energy, mainly petroleum based, and all the “green” programs won’t, in any reasonable time, change that.  We need jobs, now, so the economic multiplier will shift to positive, not the current negative.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiscal_multiplier

We are up to our asses in natural gas. Forget peak oil. There must be a “peak gas” but I can’t find anyone who has a number. We need to convert to gas. Hey, I’m no great original thinker. Other, notably T. Boone Picket, have put forth the idea. Seems we have something like 283.9 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas deposits within the USA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._Boone_Pickens

Any internal combustion engine will run on natural gas. Natural gas is dry, so valve wear is an issue. Proper valves need to be installed.  Unproven technology? Farmers pumping from the Ogallala Aquifer have been doing it for decades.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogallala_Aquifer

Won’t work everywhere, in truck, etc.?  Roush Industries spent a few months running medium duty vehicles in the hottest Arizona summer and coldest Colorado high altitude winter in 2011. Call them. For around $10,000, you can convert your F-550.

Per the US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, in 2006 there were 244,165,686 registered vehicles in the USA.  Per the US Department of Energy, in 2007 there were 164,292 retail gasoline outlets. The incomplete figures I’ve found shows a minimum of $9,000,000,000 was given out by the Obama administration, mainly as loan guarantees, for “green energy” schemes.  That money,  spent on retrofitting retail petroleum outlets,  would be about $54,780 per outlet.  Say the average vehicle is driven 15,000 mile per year, gets 30 mpg, and gasoline costs $4.00 per gallon. That comes to $2,000 per year, per vehicle.  I’m not sure what it would cost to convert a vehicle to run on natural gas, or compressed natural gas, but propane conversion can be had for under $1,000 to shade tree mechanics.  There is less energy in natural gas than diesel or gasoline but there are many fleet managers who have done the math.

Imagine the number of jobs created by doing the conversion. The multiplier effect. The new startups; new entrepreneurs. The work for trial lawyers because of inevitable mistakes. The end of foreign oil considerations distorting our national priorities and values.

Give up liquid petroleum? No need, convert natural gas to liquid; convert coal to liquid. The technology has existed since the 1930’s and is proven.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_fuel

South Africa, facing world wide sanctions and embargoes for decades, has a robust, proven, economical viable infrastructure based on the original Fischer-Tropsch system.  Off the shelf technology, so to speak.

I’ve blogged on this subject before. My one voice, like my one vote, doesn’t mean much, but I’m voting and talking. Try to shut me up!

And finally, the Greenies. After all their rhetoric, they are proponents of genocide, the reduction of the number of humans on the planet.

King Coal

We are being hosed. Recently, Bloviating Zeppelin had a post on the real amounts of energy within the USA borders

http://bloviatingzeppelin.blogspot.com/2011/03/us-oil-national-abomination-writ.html

In years past, many towns and cities were heated and lit by “coal gas” or “water gas”. Each municipality had a plant to convert coal to gas. Once natural gas became available at a lower cost, this technology was abandoned.

In 1925 two European scientists, Fischer and Tropsch, came up with a process to convert coat into liquid fuel suitable for internal combustion engines. By 1941, Germany had commercial plants up and running. By the end of WWII, a large part of their military vehicles and aircraft were operating on synthetic fuels.

South Africa, responding to years of international embargoes, used this technology to provide about 50% of their energy needs. Today, they lead the world in this technology. Not only coal, but natural gas, is turned into liquid fuels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasol

Looking at our own Department of Energy websites, you can find they are looking into it in an uncoordinated manner. No focus that I can see.

What I am unable to find is how much water is required for these processes. We have huge coal deposits. Most are in arid regions where “whiskey is for drinking; water is for fighting”.

The benefits of developing our resources are many. One, stop funding the Islamists. We are giving them the rope to strangle ourselves. Two, free up these energy sources for the rest of the world. Hungry bellies fuel wars. Prosperity encourages peace.

Obstacles to developing our resources are not technology but social. How many “greens” are from the lowest economic strata? They come from affluence and are well schooled in pushing their agenda.

Time the rest of us pushed back and take back our destiny. Easy to say. Someone smarter than me needs to figure out how.

A quote from another source.

America's corporate, political, media, academic and other leaders aren't. They're not leaders — because they refuse to stand tall, be bold, offer vision, inspire and ... well, lead. We've got too many 5-watt bulbs sitting in 100-watt sockets. They're squishing the historic can-do spirit of the American people, reducing it to a dispiriting ethic of surrender that says we-shouldn't-even-try.
