Older and Meaner

De-escalation Tactics

A recent encounter with a neighbor while delivering a mortgage company letter got ugly. Seems the neighbor is a retired policeman and has taken upon himself to be a neighborhood watchman.

He confronted me, demanding to know my business, and I politely told him to fuck off. Upon reflection, I didn’t use good de-escalation tactics. Upon further reflection came the realization I don’t give a fuck. He was still in the street making threats as I drove off.

Yeah bitch, lay hands on an “at risk senior”. Felony in Colorado.

Frugal

Indifferent to what people in general think of him is my second son. Who else drives a 2001 Ford Focus with 200,000 miles on the odometer?  He would rather spend $1,500 to $2,000 a year on repairs and tires than work overtime and Saturday to make the payment on a new car, like many of his contemporaries. The car gets regular oil changes. He uses a shop that is willing to work on an “old piece of shit”.

He makes his cheapskate father proud! What really makes his father prouder is his nearly a decade of sobriety.

Idaho Co-ed Murders

Seems the perp now will plead guilty. Seems everyone has an opinion. Here is mine. He will be going away, forever.

Yes, we won’t have a trial circus and endless appeals for years to come. That is a bad thing?

Lastly, high praise for that small town police department doing their job so well the prosecution had a strong hand.

Latter Day Luddite

My 2nd computer wouldn’t connect to the internet. Paranoid, I assumed Microsoft, with their shitty Windows 11, was trying to force me to use shit like Edge and Co-pilot. After much cursing and increasing paranoia, I checked all the cable connections. Suddenly, everything started working.

That matches my cursing the new coffee pot. After much consternation, I added water. Miracle! Coffee!

Truly, there is no fool like an old fool. At least the little head no longer thinks for the big head (much).

Local Hypocrisy

With much publicity the Greeley Police Department is introducing “photo radar” and will issue tickets. Recently, while driving 40 mph on a posted 35 mph four lane street, a Greeley patrol SUV passed me going much faster. No lights or sirens. Lead by example?

(P)regressive Virtue Signaling – Gun Law Addition

Emperor Polis signed into law HB 25-1171. If you are convicted of vehicle theft, you cannot use or posses a firearm in Colorado. Somehow the idea someone stealing cars isn’t likely to care about another law must escape these people. The senator representing my district, Andrew Bosenecker was a sponsor.

As an aside, he wasn’t elected. He was a State Representative. When a Democrat Senator, newly elected, then decided to ‘retire’, the party picked him to fill the vacancy. That is the way (P)regressives roll in Colorado.

Doggone

Some readers are interested in Banner, the smelly treat hound that shares my home. Age 13, he seemed to be declining. Then, he developed bad diarrhea. Off to the vet where fecal examination revealed three different parasites in his gut. After a few days on meds, he is alert and energetic.

I took pictures of the 20’ of poop across the apartment to show to the vet. Nobody I offered to share the pictures with accepted the offer. Should you want to see them, ask in comments.

The blasted beast is a glutton who will eat almost anything. He is especially fond of grass which may be contaminated with bird droppings. He gets high quality food along with chlorophyll drops but still grazes.

Banner Got Skunked

Banner Made a New Acquaintance

The internet sources recommend a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and a few drops of dish washing soap. At 2330 choices are limited. That helped. Three baths later there is still an odor. A cousin in Texas recommended this product.

It worked better than the H2O2 mixture.

My fault. I let him off the leash before checking out the hillside he likes to explore. The ladies in the building all have opinions and are not shy in offering them.

Banner? Once his mouth was cleared, he didn’t care at all.

While neither a believer nor skeptic, circa 1972, I had an experience I cannot explain.

Around 0100, traveling westbound on Wyoming Highway 39, in a moonlight valley with the Wasatch Mountains in the distance, a huge irregular shape passed in front of me traveling north to south. Perhaps five to ten miles in front of me, it absorbed all the moonlight. My car, a 1972 Ford LTD, started running poorly and I stopped. I could clearly see the mountains in the distance on either side of the object but not directly toward the object. All of this lasted about ten minutes (long enough to exit the car and empty my bladder) then the objects was gone. The car went back to running normally.

To answer a question others may have, I was stone sober and not a drug user.

Banner – The Accidental Hero

We have a routine. In the elevator I take off his harness and when we arrive at our floor he gallops down the hall looking for treats neighbors often leave for him. He makes a lot of noise.

My 86 year old neighbor had fallen and lay on the floor for four hours. She had managed to crawl to her door. When she heard Banner running she managed to open her door and call out to me.

With the help of other neighbors we were able to get her up and the neighbor’s wife helped her with clean clothes.

My neighbor said she was so happy to hear Banner running down the hall.

Yes, we have talked to her about an alert button or a holster for her cell phone. The lady is a tad bit stubborn.

In other Banner news he has a new collar that not only provides contrast but is reflective. He doesn’t care but the ladies in the building are complimentary.

No Human is Illegal

A favorite (P)regressive saying. Assuming, the (P)regressives believe, these illegal immigrants are leaving horrible conditions to come to a better life, will these immigrants be better off? How many will be raped on the way? How many will be bringing the same criminals harming them at their homes with them? How many are selling themselves into perpetual debt and exploitation?

For as long as I can remember, the USA has spent billions in foreign aid. Seems like many charitable organizations in our country, where 10% of donations actually reach those in need while “administration and advertising gets 90%, is the same with foreign aid.

Do I lack compassion? No, I’ve always rooted for the underdog having been one myself. What I am is clearly seeing graft and scams on a huge scale. Your opinion may differ. Do I have a solution to offer? Not a realistic one but think the tree of Liberty needs watering with the blood of the scumbags profiting from this outrage.

Stuff - Nothing Profound

Working Road Trip

Assignments took me to Southwestern Nebraska and then to Scottsbluff Monday 4/3. I can’t remember seeing so many dead deer alongside the road. Did a harsh winter force them to look for food along the right of ways?

Other than a bitter cold wind from the East the day was sunny until I approached Scottsbluff. Tired after driving 400 miles I spent the night in Scottsbluff. I knew a storm was coming but better some bad weather driving than falling asleep at the wheel.

The next morning.

The roads were passable and by the time I hit the Colorado state line they were wet but clear except for the usual places with wind driven snow drifts.

Sisty keeps reminding me I now have time and am not doing offsite sales and working/driving 18 hours a day. I still enjoy the challenge and the extra pay that comes with these assignments. The Jackie Cooper, “Winners do what loser won’t”, is too ingrained for me to quit.

Local Crime

Our area is fortunate to have good law enforcement. Still, they get frustrated as shown in this FB post.

Weld County Sheriff's Office

This is what leniency on crime looks like in Northern Colorado

In late March of this year WCSO investigated a felony burglary where some lawn equipment and tools were stolen from the victim which amounted to them losing around $4,000. The investigation lead deputies and detectives to several local pawn shops where the victim’s belongings were either pawned or sold. This is not a post to blame the local pawn shops. After all, the suspect(s) in this case committed the burglary-not the pawnshops. Deputies worked tirelessly to follow up and solve this case and ended up arresting the suspect(s) within days from when the burglary was reported. The agency was able to recover 23 of the 53 items stolen from the victim, however more stolen property is still out there, and WCSO Detectives are working to find it. The suspect(s) were booked into jail the day of the arrest for three felony charges, relating to this crime-this will be important later in the post.

Fast forward 20 hours after the arrest-yes, we counted, and the suspect is back in the community because they were given a personal recognizance bond. It is also worth sharing days prior to the suspect(s) arrest, another local law enforcement agency responded to a traffic crash where the same individual(s) hit a local business building with a car and did not provide insurance for the vehicle at the crash and were driving under restraint.

Ask yourselves Weld County, are cases like these “just property crimes?” The items stolen were used for the victim’s business to support their livelihood. If you were a victim of these crimes and you later learned the suspect(s) were able to get out of jail so soon, would these still be, “just property crimes?”

Edit: in review of some comments, it is apparent that some very unfair judgements have been posted about the Weld County District Attorney’s Office. I Would like to publicly state that the Citizens of Weld County are fortunate to have DA Rourke and his team; this post should not reflect on their performance in any way! (Sheriff Reams)

Convenient one stop shopping. Who needs a mall?

One Way to Name a Town

The town was originally a 30 acre manufactured housing development that is an eyesore. Now it is surrounded by new two story stick built houses on tiny lots. The name comes from the first two letters of each ladies' name.

Personal opinion; in thirty years the new houses will look more decrepit than the current forty year old manufactured homes.
