My M-14 was issued to me in 1964. I understand over the years the weapon was improved. I never fired one on auto, in fact, never saw one that could fire auto. The cute flip up butt plate should brace I found to be useless. My only experience with a full auto weapon was the M-2. Bitch to carry on a road march.

Much of my hunting was in aspen and pine with few shots over 100 yards. We occasionally wandered into Moffat County and sagebrush country to hunt with relatives where wind was a factor.

All during high school I was in the Junior NRA and shot once a week during the winter. .22 at 25'. Stationed in Germany, we were able to go to a range on Sunday afternoons with our privately owned rifles. One Sargent was a Camp Perry vet and we learned a lot from him. As an example, hanging a small plumb bob from the trigger guard to hold the rifle in the same manner each time.
The woman I married liked to shoot and had a Walther PPK she was better than good at hitting targets. Later, my youngest loved shooting. By good fortune his wife was an avid shooter. Between the two of them they likely could have armed an infantry squad.
