Bitch, Moan, Complain

Alas, poor pitiful me.

Last week the A/C Compressor clutch on my car went south. Original equipment, it only had 193,000 miles on it. You would think it would have lasted longer.

I use a mechanic who works out of his house. He needs the money and I’m cheap. That, and every shop in town, worth using, is booked solid for weeks. A new compressor installed but won’t engage – some electrical problem. Yesterday the mechanic went step by step diagnosing the problem. The conclusion is the dash control is toast. He will look in the salvage yards this week. The dealership just laughs when you say your car is a 1995.

The next few days are going to be a challenge with this current heat wave (quit laughing, Texans).

Banner won’t suffer. He gets to spend the day at Sisty’s air conditioned house when he isn’t in his air conditioned apartment.

Ahhh! The good old days before cars had a/c. Enjoy the memories, WSF.

I have a 91 pickup & a 97 car. Parts Geek and Rock Auto have saved my bacon finding parts many times. If it is something I can't do myself (thanks to an old, worn out body), I use a mechanic that does the work at your house after he gets off from his full time job. Half the labor cost and I buy my own parts with no markup.

I've used both places in the past. Several sellers on Ebay have what I need. I don't care for the prices but may end up going that way. Likewise on the old worn out body. Gone are the days I fixed a Johnny Popper with a screwdriver and a Japanese snap on.

My 78 year old body says fuck the good old days. Nowdays it wants a/c and self shifters.

If worst comes to worst, a toggle switch on the dash will work. It's not climate control, but it's better than rolling down the windows.

I suggested that to my mechanic. He isn't on board.

Planned obsolescence.
Now 25 years old, my Ram Cummins truck is a classic.
I may be dealing with parts just like you soon.

My decades in and out of the car biz killed any desire to own something new and shiny. My main desire is reliability.

The two weakness of older Dodge pickups are front end suspensions and steering. The other is weak cab roofs. Some of the first generation of your model used cheap plastic screw to secure the lights and it wasn't uncommon to see one driving down the road with a headlight dangling.

That Cummins, unmolested, is good for 500,000 miles.

At least Banner won't suffer...

Only 193k? Geez...what's happened to American Quality? I sympathize. The same thing would happen if I went to a Toyota dealer for parts, only they always want to see the car, too!

Good old "2-55" A/C. Grew up with it. The memes on fakebook about vent wings come to mind, too.

Pebbles sends her regards to banner. She just got back from the Vet and is a little groggy from her surgery.

Good luck with the part! And yes, a 'tad' warm down here. AC capacitor let go last week, so at least I got in ahead of the folks that are losing them this week! It was only four years old, but that's about the average for home systems anymore...grrr

Banner has priority. Just ask him and all the ladies here in the building.

I'm finding in my declining years"2-55" doesn't cut it.

At least I'm not bucking hay bales. In my youth that was summer.

It is Tuesday. It will be a good evening for cool down at Rule105 on 10th street at 7p.
I’m planning my comeback after a four week absence because of injuries.

Not in the budget at the moment.

Trying to lay flagstones today but can't handle my measly 93 degree temp here in the Pacific Northwest. At least the humidity is only 20% so that is a good thing. The darn flagstones are at 140 degrees (IR Thermometer) how can that be. Hopefully the weather will break soon. At least Banner is getting the coddling he so well deserves.

My experience matches your much greater experience with mid 90s dodge trucks. I have had good luck with my current 2008 1500 but it is a youngster with only 140K on the odo.

Toggle switch until the part comes in. Your guy doesn't have to suffer in your car.

Eastern WA can be beastly. Years ago living in King County, I would take my kids to the Yakima area to the U Pick fields and make them work in the hot sun. The next week we would can. The motivation wasn't financial. I wanted them to understand food didn't magically appear in the grocery store.

Ed B Too old and fat to do that and my mechanic doesn't want to do it.

Glad Banner is comfortable! A few years ago on 95 F day, the lower radiator hose on my old Mercury Mountaineer failed. I had my dog with me and we we waiting on the AAA tow truck to bring my SUV back home to fix. A woman pulled up with a 2 liter soda bottle filled with water (I already a water bowl with water on the ground for my dog) and handed it to me saying she didn’t want the dog to go without water. I thanked her. Returning to her car, she looked back at me and said, as an afterthought, I could have some of the water, too! Everyone looks out for the dog …

"He needs the money and I’m cheap." Right with you. And yes, it's a bit chilly here in Texas.

Right now he has a better paing remodeling job going and we need to find a part at a salvage yeard.
