Why I Decided to Walk to Work, Ocean Division

Back in the day at the Recruiting station.

SSG Coleman, "Son, ever been on the ocean?"

Me, "I've seen the Great Salt Lake".

A few months later aboard the good ship General Maurice Rose was happy I listened to him.

I went to sea simply because I didn't want to walk to work, sleep in tents or in the open, and become the main course for any number of insects and leaches. But as an old Army fried of my once said, "Never in recorded history has a many been eaten by a shark in a foxhole." His reason for not going to sea.

The military is a crap shoot. A cousin joined the Navy "to see the world". Spent three+ years on Adak.
