If Only
Stolen from a Facebook posting. Wish it applied to all Colorado visitors that venture into the mountains.
I'm sure there are some Atlanta or LA drivers trying to pass on the strip of ribbon, too. Just a slight jerk of your steering wheel will send them sailing into oblivion.
So I worked for a flower shop in Montrose. One of the things I did was deliver flowers. Sounds logical, right?
Had to deliver some funeral arrangements to Ouray. I drove the delivery van all the way up there and parked out front. Carried in a couple bouquets, said 'hi' to the guy sitting in the chair in the front room, dropped the flowers in the delivery area and went back out to the van for the larger spray and casket piece. I was sort of pissed off that the man didn't even stand up and hold the fucking door, that stuff was heavy and I was having a hard time with the door and the flowers. I got in, dropped off the flowers (walked them back to the delivery area one at a time) and he still just... sat there. Meanwhile, a door at the back opened and closed (I could hear it) and a guy walked into the front room. "Oh, hello!" he said. "I thought I heard someone out here."
I glanced at the man in the chair, and the guy who'd just come in said, "Oh, I hope he didn't scare you. We have to thaw him out before we can prepare him for his casket."
Then I noticed the plastic under him on the chair and on the floor around him.
He'd gotten caught in an avalanche on Red Mountain.

Love it!
I prefer the image of an RV going thirty MPH the length of the pass.
Going North on the outside lane is a sovereign remedy for falling asleep at the wheel.

Fantastic story.
Ami, that is too good. I can see it happening.
I hadn't thought about it in years. It was such a strange thing to happen. I was 17 or 18 at the time.
A lifetime ago. :)
