Not living
(or voting) in California makes me a spectator to the governor’s primary race.
Thankfully, given this candidates proclamations.
Neel Kashkari said Wednesday that he owns four guns and
supports gun rights but
is "not running on an agenda of the Second Amendment,"
highlighting a contrast with Tim Donnelly, the other main Republican
running for governor.
"If
you're a single issue voter, and you just want someone to give you a full
capacity assault rifle magazine, God bless you, you can go vote for somebody
else," Kashkari told a group of college Republicans at California State University,Sacramento.
"I'm not your guy”.
He goes on
to say.
"I do know philosophically that I deeply believe in
protecting my own gun rights, and that means protecting your gun rights,"
Kashkari said. "But I also believe that, you know, we need to be
reasonable about things."
You can read the
whole thing here.
I will give him
points for being forthright, but he would lose my vote.
Being called a “single
issue voter” is a put down. Same as calling someone dumb, bigoted, low
information, or dogmatic.
I’m solidly against
murder, forcible rapes, and sex crimes against children, but relative
indifferent about marijuana and under age tobacco use. Does this make me “single
issue”? Or, am I even making a coherent point?
I found much to
ponder in these two links.
I want to
live as a free man, without the nagging class telling me what to do, what to
think, what to believe, and how to behave. I want that for my children and
grandchildren. If opposing those who mean to infringe on my life makes me a “single
issue voter”, then I proudly say, “You damn right I am”.

Concur with all... And I'm betting he's NOT going to win the primary!
Thank you for your comment. Since you have family in CA, you probably have more interest in that race.
I think a person could look at it this way, too. Sometimes a single issue IS the issue. Period.
For example, if a candidate agrees with me on most things, but thinks that gay people should not be allowed to marry/have whatever rights, that would be a single issue that would cause me to vote against that candidate.
And 2nd amendment rights are exactly that.. rights. It pisses me off to no end that the politicians think they have any business screwing around with those rights. They're not suggestions or wishes. They're in the Constitution. I'm so tired of the dumb assholes who think 'common sense' regulations make any sense at all. ::urge to strangle:::
I no longer live in California (thank goodness) but we have plenty of dumb shit politicos here in Oregon.
Very well said. Should have had you write the blog.
The Neil Smith article was really, really good. Sharing on Facebook, although the people who don't get it now probably won't ever get it. It's still very well done and worth passing on.
That is what is great about the Internet. You can use the library while wearing your slippers.
I put stuff on FB all the time but suspect most FB users want to see cute puppy videos.
Oh. The nagging class. That sums up how I feel our government has become. Great coin phrase.
Thank you!
Scotty, your comment isn't showing up. Blast you, Google.
