Although we share the same last name, we are not related. He owns the property giving access to the White Family Cemetery. This past week a wild fire swept the 320 acre homestead. Before it got close, he sprayed the cemetery area with fire retardant!

Over the years, revisions to US Highway 40 removed direct access to the homestead. Not only has Zane allowed access through his property, he has graded the road into the cemetery and has loaned his backhoe to dig graves.

Zane lost some dry land wheat fields. His house and buildings were spared because he sprayed them with fire retardant.

All of Western Colorado is dry with many fires burning. Always looking for a bright spot, a decent winter will make for great grass next year on the homestead.

 This fire started near Elk Springs. There was a report of an 18 wheeler dragging a chain producing sparks that may be the cause.

Again, radical judges and environazis are trying to force what voters will surely reject, should it make the ballot.

DIA + Nuclear Power Uproar

Seems the airport is looking into a small nuclear reactor to power the airport. Lots of pro and con viewpoints. Buried in the details is $1.25 million in airport money for a study! More ways for unelected busy bodies to piss away money while funneling the money to favored recipients, IMO.

 In-N-Out Burgers

A few have opened in Colorado inclsing one eight miles from me. While I rarely do fast food, yesterday I stopped there. Long lines but a short wait. That place has it together. Price is about $2.00 less than the competitors and, IMO, a better tasting burger.

COVID Scare

 

Middle son called Friday night in a panic. He was ill, vomiting, dizzy, and weak. Thought he might have the Kung flu.

My third question, “Have you eaten fast food recently?”

“This afternoon”, he replied.

This morning he was able to go to work and passed the temperature check at the door. My relief is enormous.

A few years ago I checked into a motel Friday night in Bonner Springs, KS. Didn’t see any restaurants nearby but next door was a McDonalds where I grabbed a quick carryout. Spent Saturday and Sunday immobile, too sick to even go outside or even drink coffee.

The risk of bad food hasn’t gone away. Many people who work fast food are financially stressed and will go to work regardless of how they feel. I really can’t blame them.

I rarely eat fast food and the Bonner Springs episode wasn’t the last time it has happened.

Frustrated Latter Day Luddite

Today I was beaten and kicked to the curb by MacDonald's self order kiosk. All I wanted was a soft serve cone and wasn't smart enough to get it done.

I urgently needed a restroom which was the reason I stopped. As a personal value, I won't use a business' sanitary facility without spending money there, even if it is coffee or a lottery ticket.  I dislike mooches and avoid being one.

After three times becoming ill after eating their food, I swore off MacDonalds. The last time put me in bed for two days at a motel in Russell, Kansas (2006). A soft serve cone should be safe.

It is doubtful any fast food business worries about losing someone in my demographic. 

As usual when confronted with a problem involving something I really don't need, I just said, "Fuck it", and walked away.

Big Doings

Opened yesterday in our little burg with long lines and traffic jams. Very welcome. For years only one KFC in town, dirty and poorly managed or the usual grocery store deli chicken. Will check it out in a few days.

Wow! What next? Maybe a Waffle House?
