Wolf Creek Pass

While I no longer use this road on a regular basis, this CDOT link is worth watching, IMO.

In the video you see the truck finally stop short of a curve to the left. About fifty feet in front of the truck, this is the view.

US 160 Walsenburg – Cortez is a visual treat with a variety of scenery. Just don’t drive it with your head up your ass, just saying.

The good news is the beer was Bud Light. IMO the worse stuff ever to be called “beer”. A great disappointment in my life is my youngest son drinks that swill. Where did I go wrong?

The picture? Off a 25 mph 230° turn just past the last runaway truck ramp.

Wolf Creek isn’t the worse paved highway  pass in Colorado IMO. I can’t think of any paved highway pass in Colorado I haven’t driven. The one that shrinks my scrotum is the South side of Douglass Pass between Grand Junction and Rangley.

For summertime thrills, there are dirt road passes that will challenge the most experienced off road warriors. Being the old fool I am, I’ve driven many in a 2wd pickup.

Wolf Creek Pass

Damn fools. Big rig would be fined $1,000 for not having chains

How the hell do you drive into  the ditch, going uphill, in a 4x4 SUV. Lucky someone with a chain stopped and pulled you out.

Total stoppage,  long enough for the heat from the idling vehicles to melt the snow on the road. Some dufas pulled a big rig over to chain up and drove over the edge of the road. Three huge wreckers were trying to pull him out. Sorry, no pictures - too dangerous to be gawking.

Chains required on the big rigs. Most drivers won't go over 20 mph with chains on. Many miles down Wolf Creek Pass until there is a wide spot to remove chains. If you are in a spam can, you do 20 mph too.
