Apathy

A mayoral candidate and a city council candidate held a well publicized,  “meet and great” in our 96 unit apartment building community room. Just three of our residents bothered to attend.

 My neighbors who didn’t attend will be the first to piss and moan about how the city isn’t doing this or that.

Is it surprising elected officials care more about their donors and less about “the people”?

Recently a Sundance range rider was hit by a stray bullet. Entered his neck, went through his lungs, and is still lodged in his chest cavity. He didn’t realize what happened and continued to work. After awhile others realized he was hurt and he ended up in a Rapid City, SD hospital for a few days. Discharge instructions.

He’s supposed to “take it easy” for the next two weeks, after which he can ride a horse - if it’s a broke horse - he recalled from talks with his doctor.

Southeast Colorado is the location for the Comanche Grasslands administered by the USFS. The econazis infesting the USFS, aided by their allies, want to “fence it in” from most public use. There is a long, detailed report in the Fence Post. For those not familiar, the Fence Post is a weekly newspaper focusing on agriculture.

Like many states, Colorado is mainly rural and most residents dislike being dictated to be their Front Range self appointed betters. Having done a lot of business over the years in that county, I know they are not to be messed with.

Local Politics

Home city elected positions are officially non partisan. I strive to be an informed voter and need to decide which one gets my vote. Mayor. One, male, has been in politics forever and has been a city councilman and county commissioner. He is what I call a country club republican. That is not all that bad because he has many contacts and years of involvement in local issues. My problem is that I don’t like country club republicans in general.

 His opponent, female, checks all the boxes for a leftist suburban democrat. She, and another woman running for city council, will have a meet and great here in our community room.  I plan to attend with an open mind.

 I’ve posted before about the “blueprint” created years ago by four wealthy leftist to turn Colorado blue by, among other tactics, fund campaigns for the politically correct candidates running for local offices. The “blueprint” has been successful.

 There are four candidates for the council seat that represents my district. I know nothing about them and have some research ahead.

Today was a good day, bad day news day. Bad: Rent is going up $100 a month next year. My lease is based on 80% of the going market rate for my area. Good: Filled the car today for $2.3099 a gallon.

I See Some Merit

We should recognize the old, “what goes around comes around” , pearl of wisdom. ICE methods today may be used by Democrats in the future. I see some merit, out of thousands of arrests, a few can be cherry picked as wrong.

My Bad

$40 poorer after receiving a speeding ticket from a speed trap. WCR 49 is a four lane connector between I-76 and US 34. Traveling North, the speed limit goes from 65 to 55 and then 45 as you approach US 34. The Town of Kersey has an automated radar/photo setup as a revenue generator.  I was caught doing 57 just where the limit becomes 45. The good news is the ticket doesn’t go on my driving record.

Unqualified big rig drivers are in the news every day. Safety is the reason.

The cynic in me says it is a job nobody wants being done by people nobody else will hire.

I’m sure DOT under Sean Duffy is working on ways to go after the employers. That is the root of the problem, IMO.

Drivers? They must be able to understand enough English to read road signs, do logbooks, and safety checks. What is harder to overcome is their attitudes. They don’t respect the way this country operates and our laws and regulations. Outlaw attitude.

Are there a lot of stupid rules? Of course, government at its finest.

 Only one known member of Congress has a Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Senator Jon Tester of Montana. He holds a CDL and still drives a truck on his farm. 

While other members of Congress have supported bills related to CDL regulation or the trucking industry, Senator Tester is the only one publicly identified as holding one. It is possible that other members have CDLs that are not publicly known. 

The country needs those big rigs rolling. Legal immigrants, properly trained, should be welcomed, IMO.

Being a true old fart (eight decades on this planet) with a long memory, I know Presidential Executive orders were once rare. Now they are common. Depending on your political slant, you may find them wonderful, or you may find them abhorrent. In any case, my grandchildren’s future will likely be governed by them. That gate will be hard to close.

At the moment, PDJT is seeking War Power from Congress. Will he get it? If not, will he go ahead anyway?
