FAFO

Damn Fools

Too easy to judge the actions of these people when facts and motivations aren’t known. Disillusioned? Escaping a domestic situation? Who knows?

Certainly the high Rockies in winter are dangerous places to be.

YUGO

Mega dealer Cal Worthington had a Yugo dealership in Federal Way, WA. The dealership had some weird financing scheme where you could get a Yugo for under $100 a month. What was weird was the balance owed didn’t go down at all until the final payment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOsLdT4slsk&ab_channel=CherylMcCoy\

When a Yugo pulled onto the lot the experienced salesman scattered. Some green pea would get the up. The Yugo drivers usually had a ‘thousand yard stare’. When the dealership called for a payoff on the trade, it was always $4,000+.

My only Yugo experience was driving a trade in from the customer’s house. They were afraid to drive it! No big deal for the twenty or so miles; just another car. It didn’t seem any worse that a Chevette we once owned. That was a tough car! It lasted nearly eighteen months with my ex driving it.

The Chevette had a toothed pulley that drove the timing belt. This pulley had a tiny pin that slid into the driveshaft. The damn pin was always breaking. Whenever I visited the wrecking year to find one I would collect as many as I could find and would end up using them.

Luckily the kids weren’t with her when she wrecked that wretched little car. I replaced it with a huge Chrysler.

Shit stirring question?

Federal payroll taxes are direct taxes and are remitted directly to the IRS. Constitutional? Is there a way that those taxes are remitted to the states first, and then the states remit them to the IRS? Imagine if individual states controlled the process. Might bring the swamp/sewer to a breaking point.

He has presidential aspiration and is trying to position himself as some kind of Libertarian. In fact, he is now, and always has been, a Boulder County (P)regressive.

Failing to win the Presidential nomination, and being term limited, he will likely set his sights on the 2026 senate seat.

Even someone with a modest education, such as me, can learn via the internet. When it comes to ‘climate change’ YouTube offers topics like, Milankovitch Cycles and Polar Vortecs. The more I learn, the more skeptical of breathless Chicken Little pronouncements like huge increase in sea level, the Gulf Stream dying, greenhouse gasses, etc.

As always, YMMV

The adults are on their own. They are after all legally able to make their own decisions. To hazard a child, and in this day and age a 14 year old is still a child, is unconscionable. I winter camped when I was stationed in Quebec and I think the longest I was out was four days. Initially I went out with what was called the base rescue flight (essentially survival troops). Later I did solos. It takes planning, good equipment, and a God awful amount of food.

Climate change. I have been convinced for many yeas that it is all a scam so some people can get rich and gain power. Maybe in a hundred years we might have a handle on how all the variables affect Earth's climate but we sure don't know now.

One of the places we lost control of our own gubmint was when we let 'em get away with the whole withholding scam. If everybody had to sit down and physically write out weekly or monthly checks to the various taxing agencies, that might - might, mind you - get the proletariat's attention about how badly they're getting hosed.

I love this post because it has a photo of snow.

And good tax call. I'm with Wild.

Agree with you. One nearby town is Gunnison, CO - one of the coldest spots in Colorado. The child didn't deserve that.

Good idea.

Current joke. "Can you imagine shoveling snow in this heat?"

People don't believe this weather will kill you, or they think they're smart enough that it won't kill them. Mother Nature has other ideas. I heard some of the discovery and removal operations on my scanner. I knew it was bad, but didn't know anything else.

HAH! A Yugo. Out-of-date design, made with Soviet-Era "steel", and screwed together by people who didn't two spits about what they were doing. Never drove one, but I have driven a bunch of Chevettes with Pontiac badges. One was a Diesel-powered. You can a picture of it in Webster's by the entry for "Slow Car". It was very, very close to not being able to get out of it's own way.

Emperor Polis has no business being in the position he's in now. Having him as President would be too close for comfort to "Idiocracy".

Yep, there are plenty of times a person can expand their knowledge using the Internet. Just stay off social media for the best bang!

Diesel powered Chevette. Drove one or two while in Seattle. Even at sea level they were a slug. Imagine trying to drive one over a mountain pass! Same era, Ford put diesels in Ranger pickups and Escorts. Also slow.

I've posted before about a Siberian fish process boat owner who brought his 500' vessel into Seattle twice a year. He would buy every diesel powered small car or pickup I could find and load them as deck cargo before returning home. My house at the time had a very deep and private back yard which I would fill with cars and trucks. Most of my neighbors didn't complain as they were always in need of temporary transportation.

One of my favorite vehicles I've owned was a 1984 Mighty Max turbo diesel 4x4. That truck went everywhere. One time I turned it off at about 11,000' on Mt Boss. Trying to start it wasn't fun. For whatever reason, I had parked it pointing downhill.Started rolling, 2nd gear, engaged the clutch and chugged along for about 500' before it started. Once the turbo put out enough pressure all was well.

Yes, I remember the story about the fishing boat.

Good thing you parked it facing downhill. Otherwise you would have to do a "Reverse Rockford Turn"!
