2028 Presidential Candidate –
Emperor Polis
He will save the Democrat Party – just ask him.
Neighbor. “Can’t you say something good about Jared?”
Me: “He is term limited”.
He was quick to jump the shark on SloJo’s pardon of Hunter.
"While as a father I certainly
understand President @JoeBiden’s natural desire to help his son by pardoning
him, I am disappointed that he put his family ahead of the country," Gov.
Jared Polis tweeted Sunday night.
"This is a bad precedent that could be abused by later
Presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation. When you become President,
your role is Pater familias of the nation."
Added Polis: "Hunter brought the legal trouble he faced on
himself, and one can sympathize with his struggles while also acknowledging
that no one is above the law, not a President and not a President’s son”.
Circa 1992 I worked in Puyallup, WA for a Mitsubishi dealership when an arrogant red dot Boeing engineer came in. He had a station wagon trade. At the time Mitsubishi offered a van that was virtually sales proof. They were so hard to sell Mitsubishi gave the dealers $4,000 trunk money. Trunk money is a given to the dealer, not the customer. After a prolong negotiation, we sold the van at dealer invoice and gave Mr. Red Dot what he wanted for his trade. He wrote a check for the van. I immediately drove to his credit union, about 40 miles, and turned his check into a cashiers check.
About two hours later, Red Dot called. Somehow he learned about the trunk money. Wanted the $4,000. Told him, “NO”. About 20 minutes later he called back totally pissed off. Seems he called his credit union to stop payment on his check.
We had a two
day rodeo. We had his trade locked up in the bull pen and we had the signed off
title to the trade. He returned the van, parked it in front of the dealership, and
we had it towed away. Damned if that wasn’t a satisfactory sale. (Yes, I know.
Evil car salesman. Guilty, and proud of it) This was in the early days of CSI (customer satisfaction index). My general manager was so happy to see one of those
vans gone he didn’t care about an angry customer.
As an aside, trunk money isn’t a rare thing. Toyota screwed the pooch on their T-100 pickups and had big trunk money to get them sold. I never worked at a Toyota dealership but had friends that made some big bucks on those pickups.
I have no
opinion on why the T-100 wasn’t the usual Toyota success.

HAH! Just blew coffee on the keyboard!
So "Trunk Money" is different than "Dealer Holdback"? One thing I learned from my dealership buddies was holdback money was sacred, and never discussed. Mitsu's were weird cars. Seems they always had various mechanical issues, and were a PITA to work on. A friend had a twin turbo 3000GT, and it was always in the shop. He kept praying somebody would swipe it, but it was in the shop too much!
Trunk money is akin to a rebate. Hold back is money that can be earned by hitting certain goals. At least that was in my day.
I've owned three Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickups. Decent trucks, about 85% as good as a Toyota at 50% the cost of a Toyota. They can build some performance cars. A Starion would blow away a Supra. Last as long? Probably not.
My favorite Mighty Max was a 1984 4x4 5 speed turbo diesel that lasted 300,000 miles. I regret not having the engine rebuilt. That truck once pulled a 10,000 lb plumbing service truck 1/2 a block down an alley with 3' of snow without a problem.
Jerry Korum owned several dealerships in Puyallup. I originally started at the Ford used car lot but got crosswise of the manager and ended up at the Mitsubishi store. Made the largest monthly paycheck ever in my 'career' there, $35,000. The bulk of that month's sales were used cars from the Ford lot (ha, ha). Add one motor home, a DeLorean, and four Explorers. Jerry didn't care who sold what. Having made many enemies within the Korum organization, I was happier at anther store run by a manager I worked for at another store.
OK, so it's a factory rebate to the dealer to "Get This Sucker OUT Of Inventory". I knew my friends got hold back payments from GM all the time, which makes sense because they sold a LOT of cars.
Mitsu did make very good little trucks. The Japanese had that market sewed up pretty tight back then. They had the reliability of an anvil, were cheap, easy to fix, and pretty damn versatile to boot!
The biggest problem with them was rusty beds. The "chicken tax, 25% tariff, caused the trucks to come in as a cab/chassis. The beds were made in Korea and the quality was poor. At the Port of Seattle a couple of companies would install the beds and then the trucks shipped to dealers.
I remember those days. That's why Subaru but the seats in the bed of the BRAT. Tax NOT charged as it was not a "pick-up truck".
I'd forgotten that.
