Vietnam War Legacy

Have you noticed how many Leftist were college age during the Vietnam War? Wasn’t that when the Communist changed tactics and focused on colleges/universities and not labor unions?

Related subject. How many of you know “woke” women who are happy?

Sisty will say I’m over thinking, as usual.

  1. I graduated high-school in 1969, so I watched a lot of this stuff unfold. Too stupid to "do anything" about it other than voting "conservative" like I still do. I (barely) failed my pre-induction physical, so while I got a "free ride" as some people called it, I watched all the angst of guys who were probably going to get drafted unless they qualified for a 2S deferment, and then they all stressed out about getting drafted right after they graduated. Some of them manned up to it, and some acted like little girls about it.

And all the "little girls" wound up going hard-left. Some of them were actively working to unseat President Trump from the moment of his election.

I don't know what they call themselves these days, but to me they're Communists....

  2. Around that time I became involved with veterans against the war. Our position was fight the damned thing all out or get the hell out. I still feel the same about any and all military endeavors.

  3. Those were exactly my feelings at the time, and still are. And my Dad the SeaBee said exactly the same thing.....

  4. My Dad and Uncles were of the same sentiment.

  5. You and I and others like us did our bit to stem the "red tide". Little did we know that we were already being out flanked.

  7. Not overthinking at all, right on target. And you raise an interesting point -- the Left abandoned the working class and went after "thought leaders." Well, it's been a successful tactic, no doubt about it. It's also shown them up for the rank hypocrites they are, enemies of the people they pretend to care about. If they keep pushing, and they will, they won't like the revolution that follows.

A legitimately elected party doesn't operate behind fences patrolled by troops. In their arrogance they are abusing the very troops they have on guard. Sleeping in parking garages? Yes, in a war zone.

  9. Colin Powell, before he also became a hypocrite, said "Cut it's head off and kill it".
If/when we decide to sacrifice human treasure, we need to insure our enemies sacrifice MORE of it, and suffer in the experience.
Having talked with many Vietnamese over the years, I don't regret my VN investment one bit.
I just wish we hadn't given up.

We needed to go all out. A lot of the equipment used was WWII/Korea vintage. Not going after the North's airfields. On and on. If sent, I would have went. Circa 1965-66 the only volunteers from European commands wanted were French speakers.

  12. Let's not forget which political party got us knee deep into Viet Nam, couldn't get us out of it, and then after we did get out, bullshit "peace with honor" and all that, abandoned an ally and cut off all aid to South Vietnam, causing their collapse.

It was a donkey show most of the time. Tricky Dickie could have done better IMO.

  14. Yes sir, the rat-bastid twins Kissinger and Nixon set it up to fail, perhaps by accident but that was the end result, thanks to the Donks cutting off ammo and the refusal to bring back American air power, as promised......

Why would any nation trust the USA after that? And let us not forget LBJ raided Social Security to pay for the war.

  16. Why indeed. I've struggled much with that question myself.
