Agate Fossil Beds

Fossils can be found in nearly any outcropping of ancient sedimentary rock all over the West. One of the premier sites is in Nebraska.

The limitations of the photographer, not the camera, result in these pictures. Hopefully, there will be something interesting to see.

Lakota

Many people are enamored by Native American culture and history. I’m not one of them. That said, the building houses an enormous collection of Lakota artifacts in a separate wing.

Walks

For the physically fit, there are many hikes to the fossil beds.

  1. I love fossils. That's why I'm still married to one. Haha.

Fascinating. I'm not a big artifact fan, but I do like the occasional jaunt through the museum.

We have the John Day Fossil Beds here in Oregon. I am old enough to remember when it wasn't a national monument and one could go in, dig out whatever they wanted, and take it home. Of course one can still do that in a great deal of the state, you just have to know where to dig.

  2. Good to see you're enjoying your vacation.

I'm going nuts here getting rid of stuff so we can get the house photographed, staged, and on the market.

Got a 5 cubic yard dumpster coming on Wednesday, and I'm sure we'll fill it....

    1. I do not envy you. When my mother's failing mental abilities required her to have 24hr care, my sister and I cleaned her house. Four 24' roll off dumpsters from a three bedroom house.

My late father was a proponent of a 5 gallon can of gasoline and a book of matches.

    1. She went from an independent antique dealer to a hoarder. My sister took the important furniture. We sold off a ton of stuff. So much was just dross.
