UPDATE: Appears the video of Red Mountain Pass in heavy rain has been pulled. Sorry.
When you visit Colorado be sure to drive Hwy 550, Red Mountain Pass.
Hint: Easier on the nerves to drive from Ouray to Silverton.

Nope, NOT doing that one in the dark, or in the winter... Nope... Nope!
ReplyDeleteWorse trip. Silverton to Ouray, night, snowstorm and pulling a 30' stock trailer. Had to be in Grand Junction before midnight. Going that direction you travel the drop off side and it is a loong way down. Only 22 miles and only 12 of it really bad.
DeleteCoolio. And crazy. I have driven that pass many o times. Beautiful. That looks a little treacherous with the water.
ReplyDeleteDoes raise the pucker factor just a tad.
DeleteI shared it on my Faceplant.
ReplyDeleteAlready told you my Red Mountain story.
ReplyDeleteBrrrr.
Yes. Quite possibly the scariest Colorado road open year around. South side of Douglas Pass Hwy 139, gets to me.
