August is usually an interesting month
driving on our route. Sturgis traffic. Tourists, thunderstorms and tornadoes.
August 21st should be extremely
interesting. Our route goes through the solar eclipse totality path. Every
motel, RV park, etc. has been reserved for months. Should be three days of
clusterfuck traffic between the tourists and the locals who can’t drive worth
sour owl shit in the best of times. Fun, fun, fun.

People booked rooms in advance to watch a solar eclipse? Don't they have jobs and lives?
Ok, I do understand Sturgis, though I've never attended the festival. It's one of those see and be seen things with a bunch of Gucci bikers hanging out trying to be as cool as the Sons of Anarchy.
Per a friend who is a Torrington, WY native, some of those reservations are five years old.
Last year encountered a group from Norway passing through Kimball, NE. Part of an organized tour with two motor homes and rental motorcycles. They had the costumes down cold. Until they talked, they looked like typical yuppie posers. Wonder how much that trip set them back?
The last couple of times we were in FTC, I noticed the coal cars running South on the rail line that bisects the city.
I also noticed signs on most of the gas pumps stating that 100% of the crude used to make the gas being sold was from either Colorado or Wyoming.
It made me smile!
At this point in time I don't think we'll be in FTC for the eclipse.
We might not be there until Spring....
The eclipse in FTC will be about 50%.
